If we involve a bit of material history we can clear this one right up. Well, nothing is just for one reason, but Iommi pitched down because he lost some fingertips in an industrial accident. That sound was very influential on what followed. Also, a down-pitched guitar sounds nothing like a bass.

my hands are too large for my cup and yet I am too small for this space
me, a man in my early 30s, sat in my cluttered loft work space, gazing intently at the camera. the proportions are unsettling. I'm also wearing odd socks.

The perfect example of analytic philosophy: let's make up a hypothetical that to us (of a certain class/race/gender) seems like an intractable dilemma but for anyone with actual knowledge of the material situation is actually an entirely different issue

hear me out - new tax for super wealthy to prevent hoarding. what you've gained in wealth over the last tax year above a certain threshold, you have to spend in the next or you're taxed something obscene like 95% - spend your money or we spend it for you.

at the end of all this artists, writers, poets and musicians will command a rate far in excess of any AI bro and when i'm near retirement I will crawl up a tall tower to collect my yearly wage, look out over my kingdom and raise a toast to my bounty: two jelly beans and a quarter cup of lemonade

30-something-year old composers whose music has something to do evil sounds, atmospheres and spaces, embodiment and decay: I can't help but wonder if we might have all been profoundly shaped by roughly the same experience encountering Burial, et. al. in about 2010. Am I right?

tell us your compositional journey to date. don't make a list of collaborators, be super specific and tell us all what you did. also mention other things you do apart from composing. BUT can you cram all this in, I dunno, like 1,000 characters?

We’ve written to the Oxford Literary Festival to question why Helen Joyce is listed under their LGBTQ+ category. Her widely criticised views on trans inclusion make this association both insulting and tone-deaf to the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve asked for this to be corrected.
We are writing on behalf of Equality Amplified, an organisation dedicated to promoting inclusivity and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. We have recently discovered that Helen Joyce is listed under the LGBTQ+ category for the upcoming Oxford Literary Festival. We are deeply concerned about this categorisation.

Helen Joyce, an author and activist known for her controversial views, has been widely criticised for her harmful rhetoric regarding transgender people. Her language and stance on trans inclusion have been damaging to the LGBTQ+ community. For instance, she has made statements that many perceive as insulting, including referring to the transition of gender as a “huge problem” and suggesting that the number of people transitioning should be “reduced.” These views contribute to a harmful narrative that undermines the dignity and rights of transgender individuals.

It is important to clarify that Helen Joyce’s perspectives, while part of a public debate, do not reflect the values of the LGBTQ+ community. Associating her with LGBTQ+ spaces is tone-deaf and risks alienating and insulting many who seek safe, supportive environments.

We also want to highlight that Joyce is not an expert on gender or trans-related matters. Her background in mathematics and journalism does not qualify her to speak authoritatively on such complex issues.

We respectfully request that you reconsider her listing under the LGBTQ+ category at the Oxford Literary Festival. While Joyce has the right to express her opinions, we believe that her inclusion in this context misrepresents the LGBTQ+ community and detracts from its values of inclusion and respect.

the important question isn’t “did Harris lose because the left is too woke?” it’s “why isn’t Donald Trump in federal prison?” We’re being subjected to lectures about politics by the people who held all of the power and let this dipshit slip through their grasp.

If you're in Melbourne over Christmas, please do go! I'll be there in spirit. 'the angles which wound me' was a huge turning point in my creative development... by which I mean my turn towards sci-fi gothic lunacy with filthy sounds and a penchant for exuberant graphic scores.

Art can be a very legitimate and effective form of protest, even at this time in history. But only if we're actually willing to give a flying fuck about supporting each other's art and not just consuming the art product corporations sell to us.

Drafting my piece for the Legato project... something is emerging in the cello part. May scrap everything else and go from here!
A fairly sparse (by my standards!) soloist cello part with a wide ambit, repeating notes and a fair bit of filigree.
