Question for @audaxuk.bsky.social followers: What do you use for planning 200+km rides? About 10 yrs ago I paid for the Komoot global maps upgrade & have been very happy with it. But since the company was sold, the app & website have been messed about with in a bad way. I’m looking for alternatives.

So many UK cycling organisations are trying to encourage women to ride, and yet our Government and local councils are letting us down. It's ridiculous. @cyclinguk.bsky.social @audaxuk.bsky.social www.audax.uk/about-audax/...

Yesterday's @audaxuk.bsky.social ride nudged me over 10,000km for this year. On a map of the world, it'd look like this:

"London Edinburgh London 2025 must have been the best ‘cancelled’ ride in the history of cycling. Quickly relabeled “London Floris London”, it was a mass application of the principle that “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” #LEL25 #LEL2025 #Randonneur #Cycling #Audax #CyclingStories

UPDATE 19:30 MONDAY From tomorrow morning, we're asking you to start the Southward journey. The weather still looks challenging and we are not confident we can declare the northbound route safe. Our southbound controls will be open to welcome you and look after you. #LEL2025 #LEL25
Transcript:

UPDATE 19:30 MONDAY

Continuing weather uncertainty means we have reached a decision point. We are inviting riders to join us on the Southern Route from tomorrow morning.

If you don't wish to follow the southern route now and decide to travel home now, please let your controller know.

London Edinburgh London attracts adventurous riders from around the world - thank you for being part of it.

Sadly, this year, the adventure is going to have to be a little briefer than before. From tomorrow morning, we're asking you to start the Southward journey from wherever you are. Our southbound controls will be open to welcome you and look after you. The weather still looks challenging and we are not confident we can declare the northbound route safe in time for the ride to continue to work for riders and the helpers who have made plans around the event. People have jobs to get back to and flights to catch.

By deciding to pull the plug now we can support the amazing people who ride with the amazing people who help. There will still be a challenging ride homeward. The flat lands of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire will provide a test for audacious souls and people will need to work together to get home.

Riders are being invited to stay until the morning in their current positions. This will give us time to reposition teams and materials to support you and ensure that you still have a great ride. In a couple of places we will need to bring in staff earlier than planned so we'll need to manage that.

If you decide to make your own way home, please help us by telling your control that you are going. That will help us with planning and organisation. We'll communicate more information later for people planning on heading south.

We're sorry that the weather has beaten us this time but rider safety is paramount and cannot be compromised. We're looking forward to you joining us again in the future. Thank you for your understanding, support and company.

Go anywhere nice for that week off in August, Dave? Aye. I spent a few days at an austere retreat, where we took regular cold showers, ate experimental cuisine, and the beds were hard. Managed to top up my tan though. #LEL2025

None of this is breaking news to dot watchers - I've been crashed asleep since finishing my volunteering shifts. Looking at where tracked riders are paused: Hawick 7 Brampton 20 Mickleton 58 Richmond 258 Malton 144 Hessle 25 ..if this translates to all riders, Richmond could be chaos!
View of rider tracker page showing where tracked riders are waiting - as per main body skeet.
