Seconding all of this, especially GMs harming their own fun by over-preparing. Speaking from experience, beyond being stressful, there's a fair to decent chance it makes your games worse! Really hoping this reaches AI-tempted GMs too. You! Don't! Need it!

This aligns with my theory that GMs with headstrong players naturally end up prepping more 'situational-y' because signposting alone isn't enough. The opposite are GMs with players competing for an imagined 'best player award' where signposting works like, every time.

This is such an interesting post about something I've felt a bit in my own prep. Too much signposting creates the same sort of table habits that too much railroading does. Good read, since we don't typically talk about this 'mirror' of railroading!

Signposting was what I named the underlying tension that drove me to the N/OSR. After months of wrestling with it, I think I've nailed down what it is, why GMs rely on it, and how it goes wrong. This post was months in the making; come check it out! atmosphericunderworld.com/signposting-...

With a new baby and toddler, The Odyssey (2026) may be the last movie I'll see for a while, but I was still able to glean (or couldn't avoid gleaning) a few lessons from it for TTRPGs #osr #ttrpg

What The Odyssey (2026) Can Teach Us About Running TTRPGs — Prismatic Wasteland
Every movie has lessons for running your game if you are sufficiently TTRPG-brain-poisoned, but Nolan’s The Odyssey (2026) has more than usual.

EIGHT HOURS TILL OUR JUNETEENTH TTRPG STREAM EVENT STARTS! 📺: www.twitch.tv/findoutprodu...
A rectangular image. Its background is blue with the white star emblem associated with Juneteenth. At the top it reads Juneteenth TTRPG Stream Schedule. At the bottom of the image is a cut out of the dancers from The Sugar Shack painting from 1976 by American artist Ernie Barnes.

In the middle of the image is the bulk of the information. Headshots of each GM/Storyteller, with the names and time of each of their game

Maia (MY-EE-UH): A headshot of a woman with shoulder-length, wavy dark hair and brown eyes, looking directly at the camera with a neutral expression. She is wearing a light-colored button-down shirt against a plain, off-white background.

Running Liminal Horror at 8am PT

Agent Rush: A woman in a green wide-brim hat, iridescent purple glasses, a white face mask, grey coat, and black shirt faces the camera. Her hat is tipped downward so you can't see her eyes.

Running Teenagers From Outer Space at 12pm PT

Meishali: Meishali's headshot is a digital illustration showing a feminine black person with curly hair, medium dark skin, round glasses with strong turquoise rim lighting. The style is paper-cut as well as very exaggerated and set on a burgundy background.

Running Ivresang at 4pm PT

Prince Infidel: A headshot of Prince Infidel, a round faced Black man with a short purple fade & purple glasses. He's wearing a black shirt & smiling/smirking. Below his image states 'PRINCE INFIDEL' in yellow letters.

Running Blades 68' at 8pm PT

Kaleb: A Black nonbinary person looking intrigued into the camera. Their wine colored curls are teased out around their face, with their purple and black cat eye glasses sitting slightly crooked. They have a finger under their chin with maroon nail polish.

Running Monsterhearts at 12am PT

Imani: A young child Imani smiling full teeth on display at the camera. The photo is lightly grainy. Her hair straighted and is put up in a bun. She is wearing round frame glasses

My hot take of the day is that storygames and OSR are two of the closest play cultures because they're both about emergent storytelling Storygames and OSRs differences (expectations of prep, role of mechanics in play, etc) do not make them as different as emergent storytelling makes them similar
