It seems clear from observation that the ‘rationalists’ have falling into the trap of concluding that they *are* rational and therefore that none of their conclusions are driven by emotion even when they absolutely are. The self-deceit is rampant (and very annoying for the rest of us)

I remember first experiencing undertones of it when I was in primary school (from an adult 🤦‍♀️) and then it lasted through high school and during my undergrad at uni. Never really stopped either, I got low levels of it in MMO communities right up until I transitioned 🤷‍♀️

Something I’ve heard said about action films that also have it in for Sydney is that the Opera house gives it an instantly distinguishable harbour, so a viewer doesn’t get distracted about trying to work out where what they are seeing is happening. Might be something like that at play

This does seem like an appropriate level of harsh for people who wanted to be ordained by the society about rejecting reforms from the council of ‘the church should be less evil’. Vatican II was when they reversed centuries of antisemitism and first recognised religious freedom
