We organised a stargazing party in Sankt Andreasberg. I’m delighted that so many wonderful guests came along to enjoy the dark night sky up there. Alongside interesting talks and good conversations, I captured ionized oxygen and hydrogen in this part of the Eastern Veil Nebula. 🔭🤩🧪 #Astrophotography

Happy for you, that it worked out so well. On Thursday, I was out imaging, too - but I guess, I bumped into the same cloud 🤭 I ended up with an hour of dual narrowband-data and a few minutes for RGB stars.

IC 5076 captured from my patio on four nights in August 😊🔭 This was shot on the EdgeHD 8 for a total integration time of about 24 hours in mono using a QHY294M cam and combining LRGB and Ha narrowband data to enhance the background. #Astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social‬ what do you see?
IC 5076 is a beautiful blueish reflection nebula which is illuminated by the hot blue supergiant star V2140 Cygni. It’s located in the constellation of Cygnus at an estimated distance of about 5,700 light years away from Earth.

The open star cluster NGC 6823 in the constellation Vulpecula is surrounded by the beautiful emission nebula NGC 6820. The object just fits on my camera’s sensor, so I photographed it in early summer and accumulated a good 8 h of exposure time. 🔭 #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Amazing images, Andreas. I feel so happy for you two to have experienced this event in such a nice place, without nasty clouds and to take such fantastic pictures as memories with you. Looking forward to the long story at the STATT in Sankt Andreasberg 🔭🧪

Interesting area in the sky. So many galaxies. Thanks for sharing the image. Did not get a single ahoy this summer and I am looking forward to restart at the STATT in Sankt Andreasberg at the latest

Wow - that is a very faint target. Amazing what you got using your hyperstar setup. OIII can be really challenging. Did you use a color camera? What type of filter did you use?

🤔 I was thinking more along the lines of hydrozoans. The galaxy reminded me, for example, of the blue button jellyfish (Porpita)

Despite its size, it looks like a very delicate galaxy, almost hiding in the sky. Quite like a deep sea creature. Thanks for capturing the image and setting it free afterwards. 🧪🔭

“Perfect Date” meme from Miss Congeniality (2000).

In one scene, Miss Rhode Island, played by actress Heather Burns, is asked by the host (played by William Shatner), "Describe your perfect date", to which she says, "That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot and not too cold. All you need is a light jacket."

Astronomers are losing their minds over #NASAWebb’s latest images of the very brainy-looking nebula PMR 1. Its distinctive form is the result of a dying star expelling its outer layers: news.stsci.edu/4tVQccE 🔭 🧪
A nebula appears like a transparent bubble with a white edge, inside which are two hemispheres of orange clouds being blown out from the center, split by a dark vertical lane, giving the overall appearance of a see-through skull with a brain inside, as seen from above. A few stars appear with eight points, and small background galaxies can be seen around and through the outer bubble.

#PPOD: This stunning image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope reveals a dramatic interplay of light and shadow in the Egg Nebula, sculpted by freshly ejected stardust. Located approximately 1000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus, the Egg Nebula features a central star... 🧪 🔭
In the centre an opaque cloud of grey gas hides a star. Two strong beams of light from the star emerge from large holes in both sides of the cloud. The central cloud is surrounded by concentric, wispy shells of gas, illuminated by the star’s light. The shells reflect extra light where they’re hit by the twin beams. A crowd of smaller stars with cross-shaped spikes over them surround the nebula on a black background.

Currently, several weaker comets are at least bright enough to be photographed. I captured 24P/Schaumasse on 17 January and the fragmented #comet C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) back on 26 December 2025. Their very different appearances are definitely worth further observation #astrophotography 🔭

Thank you, Paul. It was a very special night. Today, the aurora is not as vivid, but I took my young boys out to a field nearby to see it themselves. They loved it very much 🤩

A good start might be to get an App that notifies you when the conditions are auspicious. I use Space Weather Live as it gives me all the special details. But most aurora alert apps are fine. Good luck to you!

Finally, here is my composite image of the #Geminids peak on 13/14 December 2025. It was by far my most successful observation of a #MeteorShower, with over 260 meteors within 5 hours - what a night! The image is a composite of 61 individual shots of 15s and contains 65 Geminids. #Astrophotography 🔭
