Bummer Yvette. I always feel terrible leaving my wife and son, and when I travel for work it seems to be the time he gets sick (but, since he started day care, when is he not sick?! haha). Hope they fit you in at a later date!

The result looks legit to me -- I have seen less significant transits presented. Amazingly, he even adjusted the telescope's schedule to target it again at a higher cadence. While this is kind of analysis is standard today in the exoplanet field, this could totally have been a student paper still.

Just to highlight the rapid state of flux in astronomy due to AI, this was posted on reddit(!) recently. An amateur researcher essentially found a new planet using the telescope. www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/c...

A very exciting result dropped on arXiv a few days ago (by @kortizceballos.bsky.social, @whereisyvette.bsky.social and Edo Berger) - direct detection of radio emission from an exoplanet. If the result stands up to peer review, it is a giant leap forward! www.sciencenews.org/article/exop...

An awesome paper by Ivey showing that maybe we need to think harder how we plan our observations when chasing after Solar-like bursts from active stars

The future of low frequency radio astronomy is space! It is only in space that we can unlock the last part of the electromagnetic spectrum that has yet to be explored. I am fortunate to play a minor part in this team lead by Joe Lazio for the MegaWave Radio Surveyor space mission.

Rarely in radio astornomy are results tested against conditions in a lab. However, the team out of Palo Alto have done the best job yet of creating the conditions of a solar coronal mass ejection in a lab. Fun result written up by @econover.bsky.social www.sciencenews.org/article/star...

Stars’ plasma spurts may be blocked by magnetic fields
The sun frequently flings plasma into space, but sightings of such eruptions on other stars are rare. Magnetic fields could explain why.

Excited to announce the first data release from our ASKAP Variables and Slow Transients survey is now available! doi.org/10.1017/pasa... This is a database of 6.4 million measurements of 0.5 million radio sources in our survey footprint. (By @ozgrav.bsky.social Iris de Ruiter) #RadioAstronomy
The VAST Extragalactic Survey footprint, showing the number of observations of each field. The sky map is plotted with J2000 equatorial coordinates in the Mollweide projection. The VAST Galactic survey is plotted in grey for reference. Typically, each field has been observed 10–11 times to date.

It’s an interesting musing and well worth a conversation. I do disagree that astronomy has no “right edge” outside of military use. This may reflect David’s exposure to the tech side. For example, WiFi is a side product of radio astronomy research.
