Merchant of Venus is an all time favourite of mine. Quirky space themed pick up and deliver game. Played 2 player, Humans (beige) and Qossuth (orange, played by me). The humans did not have a very good game.

So, who wants a Mordheim inspired game from the guy who wrote the rules for Warcry, Games Workshop’s best wargame for years? Because that’s what you can get* if you click this link. * well, the beta rules at any rate.

Bus was fantastic. I’ve put a moratorium on adding any new games to my collection because I have way too many games and way too few dollar bills. It’s high in the list of games I would like to own when I’m ready to acquire new games.

And so we come to the end. My attempt to only play train games for an extended time was mostly successful. I made a couple exceptions and wrapped up after two weeks instead of the month I’d hoped to do. Finished up with Bus, which I count as a train game, and Hansa Teutonica, one of my exceptions.

Revisited Age of Steam - New England with a different player. Finished the game this time. 190 to 153. Last couple rounds really favored me. Turn 6 I was sure I was going to lose but all the crossing back and forth in my network saved me.

This week I am concluding my ban on non-train games. Queued up are Chicago Express, Age of Steam - New England again, Martian Rails, and Bus. Last night I joined a session of the Walking Dead RPG and the host kindly relocated it to the Railway Museum of Northern Ontario so I count it! 😃

Another old-school crayon rail night. We played 4 player Iron Dragon and didn't get that far through the game mostly due to the delicious rum punch that was on offer. The two new players that joined the game will probably not be requesting another play. 😟 Crayon Rails isn't for everyone I guess.

Got to play the excellent Railways of the Lost Atlas today! (3p) Long game! (6hours! 😅) I tried to go big with a company that could buy an infinite train and that backfired. Lost by $1000. Haha! The expansion is quite fun, variety of the new landmarks and events are very welcomed. Cool game! #18xx

If you managed to stomach the sky-high price of a ticket to a game today, you probably noticed the price-gouging didn’t stop at the stadium entrance. Concessions prices can be double or even triple what they cost just across the street. But there’s a way to crack down.

AuZtralia was great. We only got about half way through but there are a lot of fun mechanics merged into a semi competitive network building, combat game. Definitely can see inspiration coming in here from a few of his other games, Moongha Invaders in particular. Looking forward to a full play.

Steam Power seemed a little light, only my first play so I'm sure there is some optimizing that I could do but it ended with scores really close together and not many particularly hard decisions. Had fun playing it and would play it any time but don't know how much of a deeper game there is to it.

Two new games to me. Steam Power, a medium weight game of network building and contract fulfillment and AuZtrailia, not really a train game but enough train mechanics for it to qualify imo. Rail building, mining, combat. Both games very fun. Thanks Les and @laurieacheung.bsky.social for teaching!

Once they are familiar with the two things they need to do to win they can start to learn the subtleties of the auction.

I really love teaching Age of Steam to new players and while this map does away with the auction I think it is an ideal map to use to teach the player how to network build and generate income.

Age of Steam - New England Had the opportunity to reintroduce a player to AoS who had a bad experience. We used the first few turns to discuss the thinking behind the decisions. The night went slowly and we only got to turn 4 of 8 but by the end my opponent was looking forward to the next game.

A couple of shots from our play of Railways of the Lost Atlas. We made a few mistakes but still had fun. Due to time constraints we ended after cycle 4 instead of 6. Successfully continuing my only train games phase!

From now on I’m going to try to remember to take pictures but things have started off fairly strong. Age of Steam Deluxe - Scotland, Ride the Rails - Canada, Irish Gauge, and firm plans to play Railways of the Lost Atlas on Saturday.

I’ve begun a month (or so) of only playing train games. So often because of one persons hesitance, or player count, or any number of other reasons plans to play train games from my collection get shelved in favour of something lighter, or that supports fewer players, or whatever…

Awesome! Over the years I’ve managed to rebuy most of the boxes from when I was young so I’m not actively looking for any. Though I wouldn’t object to replacing my destroyed DC Heroes 2nd edition box.

Those dice were one of my favorite things about playing D&D as a kid. I remember pretending they were gemstones! No idea what my first gaming purchase would have been, probably blister packs of minis. One of the earliest and most memorable purchases was the Star Frontiers Alpha Dawn box set.
