Very true. I am old and crusty so OSRS is my jam, but maybe this will capture the hearts and minds of the next generation of gamers 🤔

I mean, I still haven't picked up Dragonwilds and I have never played RS3, mostly because I am at a point in my life where I barely have enough time for one account in one MMO / "forever game". I'll keep an open mind, but this project definitely does not feel like it is for me 🤷‍♀️

Yea I can't remember the last time I actually mined pure essence. I'm sure it's not a top priority for them, but it does seem like another case where PvM is still better for skilling than actual skilling.

I turned the Git repository for Mellifera, my scripting language with mutable value semantics, into a physical printed book! The script that generates the book is, of course, written in Mellifera itself. You can just do things! 🐝 #mellifera
A paperback book titled "The Mellifera Programming Language" sitting inside the package it was just unboxed from. The book in 8.5x11 inches with about an inch (~250 pages) of depth, has a plain tan background, and features a cover image of Melli, a rotund cute looking cartoon bee with tiny wings who is smiling. The cover features subtitles with the commit SHA (9d7db45aa2df8d4b668c374a49c552bcc3a80c61) and the commit date (2026-09-01) used for the source code of the book.A look inside "The Mellifera Programming Language" book showing a section of the primary Mellifera interpreter, written in Go. These particular pages show some utility functions, as well as the CombEncoder data structure used to serialize Mellifera values.A look inside "The Mellifera Programming Language" book showing the tail end of the mf-test testing tool for the language, as well as the basic types and values example program written in Mellifera.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Entire kiwi is edible and tastes good? Or entire kiwi is edible by technicality? I have many kiwis ripening in my kitchen counter, and this information is relevant to me. 👀

I think you are correct on both counts. I also think that type punning with a union is not longer UB (I forget her whether it's in C11 or C23), so having something like `union integer32` with signed and unsigned 32-bit integer members is also legal for using non-UB unsigned arithmetic.

(2) In assembly function pointers are just pointers so converting `func(value: *T) Foo` to `func(value: *any) Foo` and calling that function was fine (e.g. implementing generic interfaces), but in C it is technically undefined behavior, meaning that Sunder's "hello world" technically has UB 🤦‍♀️

This is basically what I ended up doing for my language. I had Linux x64 support, and then I got an ARM laptop and it was just easier to switch to emitting C rather than learn ARM assembly and maintain another translation layer. Two annoying things that ended up being a big bummer though:

My baby boy Spooky will play bite, my hand/arm, and then immediately lick the spot after as if to say “jk I’m not actually trying to hurt you 👈👉“ It took him two years to get to that spot, but he now knows to only bite hard if he is overstimulated and wants out.

If I see AI generated art in a blog post, technical article, or video essay, I immediately close the page. AI art looks laughable unserious, so its very inclusion in what would otherwise be serious technical content signals to me that the author has poor taste, and should not be considered reliable.

Seems nice from a cursory look. I think it would take 1-2 backed implementations to see if the API feels good in the hands, but that's par for the course. Do you have any specific values/instructions for UNREACHABLE or POISON as a way to allow for a backend to emit code triggering a fault or abort?

May I ask what the IR generator specifically needs to know about imports? Is this like a symbol thing or optimization boundary thing or something else?

ashn @ashn-dot-dev.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
IIRC (it was a long time ago) I think I did something similar in my toy language, where there was the module symbol table and a separate export table. Importing directories went something like “merge all export symbols of sub-files into the current module symbol table while not touching exports”.

Critically though, I did not fill out the Hall of Monuments. In my current playthrough (when I pick it back up) I intend to go through all three campaigns and then finish with EotN. I haven't actually played GW2 since launch, so maybe this would dovetale into that game.

ashn @ashn-dot-dev.bsky.social · 25/06/2026
I did do EotN, but the order for me was start Prophesies (w/ LDoA), get to Lion's Arch, do the entirety of the EotN story, continue Prophesies from Lion's Arch, then do Factions, and then finish with Nightfall. I wanted to make a busted Elementalist build with heros to sweep the campaigns.

ashn @ashn-dot-dev.bsky.social · 25/06/2026
Also FWIW, I only finished the campaigns for the first time in 2022 (ashn.dev/blog/2022-09...). I also had never really opened Factions or Nightfall, and had a blast with both. The game still holds up really well!
