Also also Bring back the whole meme of games having multiple equally viable ways to play it Future Cop has Crime War (campaign) single player and Precinct Assault (MOBA) multiplayer, but also Crime War multiplayer and Precinct Assault single player, both of which are perfectly good ways to play

100

idk what it is about Long Beach that makes co-op players disappear, it’s a perfectly cromulent level

100

Also I need to get someone to co-op the campaign with me The caveat is that they absolutely must, without fail, either fall asleep or leave midway through the last mission, Long Beach That is a tradition I’ve kept up for two runs of the game* and must be upheld *I think both runs were cheated tho

100

I had to stop myself from clicking through the invite link. Nope, got to give it some time

000

if i ever manage to drag people to mine for games night this is gonna be the second thing that gets put on after Nightfire and before Snowboard Kids

100

tbh precinct assault kinda gels for me in a way that modern MOBAs doesn’t, because not only is it a cyberpunk dystopia setting but it’s a much more intimate 1v1 heroes setup where you’re expected to interact very heavily and personally with the map and the minions. pacing feels nicer too

there is just something extremely chef’s kiss about the game. its aesthetic. its gameplay. the way it basically in many ways invented the MOBA.

congratulations, so-called authors of so-called recomps: you've put me off that entire genre of software. ain't no reason why i can't just go play a playstation game on a playstation (or emulated simulacrum of such), don't need some Claude-tainted garbage program to "make it playable"

000

God I wish I had local friends to drag to my place to get to play 007 Nightfire

120

i legit can’t remember the plot of maximum ride, did it have one

000

200 kids with wings have to take part in various reasonably dangerous games because whatever lab they crawled out of is bored and wants office party entertainment

100

honestly the mr beast x james patterson book should have been a maximum ride novel

100

the other character who witnesses this situation, for comparison, breaks down into hysterics over how Wrong and Bad it is, so the other character coming in from a position of either ignorance or detachment would work as a counter to that, as long as it’s defensible! And currently it isn’t

000

and now I’m trying to work out whether the correct resolution for that character is that those situations should be changed such that they DO affect the character, or to lean into the weird detachment to the point where it indicates there is something seriously wrong with that character

100

so i have this character who I’ve conceptualised as being absolutely laid back and unflappable to the point of being kinda unnerving, and i’ve realised that this leads to some extremely strange situations where they are unfazed by things that absolutely definitely should faze 95% of people

I’m sorry that I’ve become a pretty horrible and miserable person to be around lately. I wish I knew how not to be.

000

Americana, even. I guess the characters were theme park versions of 80s Americans too, I’m looking at you S1 Steve

000

half the reason ST1–3 worked so well is that they were a theme park version of 80s Americans but with spookums, as cringe as many people found that, and ST4–5 kinda abandoned that in favour of just trying to nail a meaningful conclusion and lost a lot of the charm of the premise

100

and S5‘s pacing was absolutely awful, resulting in massive build up to a really anticlimactic ending

100

the moment you had a Defined Antagonist™️ (I love him as a character, but honestly he felt like a bit of a last minute arse pull since he arrived out of nowhere in S4E1) the entire formula completely shifted to something that felt like it wasn’t sure whether to march to an end or keep padding out

110

Stranger Things definitely feels like it got less good the more it explained itself, a lot of the joy of the early 3 seasons was that they had Weird Shit Happening and Nobody Really Understood it, and the lack of conclusions gave the show a lot of space in which it could explore its setting

I’m not 100% sure if Stranger Things 5 did this to me on Stranger Things yet but it definitely caused a lot of my more exuberant fangirling for the show to dissipate and get replaced with a more hardnosed viewpoint

a lot of my work on hyperzoo has been soft stuff like art of max and other characters (see also, new pfp), and attempts to work on plotting, but the plot i’m coming out with is very heavily rough ideas for games that are years away from coming out if ever, not the one I need to make right now

000

i wish i had more energy atm to keep my gamedev bullshittery going, because that’s the creative outlet that’s actually making me feel most alive. The problem is that the same horrors that are making me need a solid hobby to fall back to are making me just want to sleep through my life ATM

I used to draw every character with massive padded shoulders too, and sometimes I fuck up and give sketches way more shoulder than they reasonably need I’m trying to get out of THAT particular 80s habit though!
