A fascinating editorial decision from the BBC, to make the headline a scaremongering “AUTISM AND ADHD ARE BEING OVERDIAGNOSED”, and then, four bullet points later, have the author of the report quoted as essentially saying “nah, that’s bullshit, actually”.
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says report, as author warns of rise in mental ill health
Summary
• An official review in England finds there is a risk of people being over-diagnosed with
ADHD and autism - three key findings from the report
• As well as neurodevelopmental conditions, the review looks at mental ill health, particularly in younger people. Our health correspondent explains the difference
• It was commissioned earlier this year after Wes Streeting, then the health secretary, said there was an "over-diagnosis" of mental health conditions
• Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme earlier, review chair Prof Peter Fonagy said Streeting was "with respect, completely wrong"

The graphs in the very article show that diagnoses were around 0 to 1 percent in 2000 and have risen to a STAGGERING…. uh, 4 to 5 percent. A reasonable person might attribute this rise to the phenomenon known as: “we began diagnosing people.”

I’m almost envious that Amazon was so personal here. Mine just used its Sherlockian level of deduction to determine: “buys dog treats to an Edinburgh address = owns a dog and lives in Edinburgh.”

Some dude explaining why he doesn’t read books. (From a video of a woman quoting a passage from a book she likes)
Books are second-hand experience, and importing them into my system risks diluting the structures I carved through direct contact with the world. Jade reads to feel held; I read the world by letting it bite. Fiction is beautiful, sure
- but beauty is bait, and I don't let bait rewire my neural architecture.

One of the big reasons I cut off my parent is realising that the hurt, frustration and shame I felt as a kid and an adult was actually not normal at all. I wasn't part of some new cultural movement against my parent, it was the opposite, that my experience was something of a cultural outlier.

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

Prison abolition and restorative justice have been relatively fringe issues in leftist spaces (note: fringe and unimportant are not the same thing). When they do come up, it’s most often in relation to breaking the cycle of judicial abuse, poverty and crime within marginalised communities.

This is what I'm talking about when I bring up that genAI bots are making it impossible for an open web to actually exist. It becomes expensive, a pain, and domain providers like cloudflare are profiting off both the people making bots and the people who don't have the tech skills to fight them off

My GP recommends swimming for my back. I want to go. There are 2 communal changing rooms. Labour say I should use the mens. I am a visibly female woman with a GRC. If I use the mens there's a serious risk of me being confronted and worse. So where do I go? I don't. I'm segregated from society.

this sucks. you want "restorative justice" as opposed to punishment, but what has he restored? what has he done? what does a youtuber losing his career for admitting to be a rapist have to do with carceral abolition when he has never and will never see prison time, or even actual consequences?
