“An astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions” and the “largest theft of labor in human history” is what a Microsoft executive privately said about GenAi as shown in newly unsealed court filings. And these court filings get worse. These execs knew all along the immense theft they committed.

Celebrate National Women’s Equity Day: Help Us Send 26 Women & Marginalized Creators to SLICE 2026!
💜 Equity in Action: Packing the Room for Women in Games Today is National Women's Equity Day, and Seattle Indies is putting equity directly into action. The past few years have brought unprecedented challenges to game development, with studio cutbacks, restructuring, and layoffs disproportionately impacting women and marginalized creators across the Pacific Northwest. For 10 years, Seattle Indies has stood as a non-profit pillar for local creators. To mark our 10th anniversary and Year 2 of SLICE 2026, we are launching a special Women's Equity Day campaign: raise at least $2,600 to unlock 26 full-access passes for women and marginalized developers…

See, this is why I think it's VITAL to differentiate the people making the games from the terrible corporate circumstances they're working under. The people actually doing the work are usually the coolest goddamn people you'll ever meet, fully in it for the love of the (video) game.

What if I told you that all of the Publishing Agreements I have reviewed in the last 6 months (several dozen) included a no gen AI provision, wherein the use of gen AI in development is a material breach, but companies like Epic and EA are still trying to convince us the industry is cool with it

My first game industry contract job "interview" had me come in and work a full day while a senior sat and watched me to see if I knew what I was doing. It wasn't until talking to others and getting more experience that I realized that was a very strange way to hire someone 😅 .

I don't use genAI. Plenty of devs don't. I think people say everyone uses genAI because that'll make it inevitable. And if inevitable, why fight back? Why not force it in our tools and engines? Why label games that use it? Why not build that giant data center? If true they can use AI guilt free.

Artists, it looks like Adobe might be doing very questionable things at the moment by auto-enrolling you into a more expensive AI-heavy "pro" plan (potentially even charging you for opting out after the fact, which I should hope is illegal). Be vigilant 🧵 see further posts below

Character artist here 🙋. Thoughts: 1. We’re not extruding all day (much quicker ways to low poly) 2. Edge flow matters for deformation not fantasy 3. Artists are not against GenAI to keep tedious workflows 4. Given a mesh they wouldn't have learned enough to fix any deformation or perf issues

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."
