Went back to 2024 for #showmeyourknits - stockinette. I knitted Bobby Hill as a frog for my spawn’s bday. Drafted a tiny sock pattern, modified a baby Chuck’s bootie pattern. Socks are lace weight on size US000 needles. Frog knit all in stockinette, Claire Garland’s pattern (slightly modified). 🐸🧶

ALSO, it's not just little old ladies sewed the first spacesuits," it's "the women from the Playtex Corp were the only ones who could sew within the tolerances needed." Yes, THAT Playtex Corp, the one who makes bras.
Bra-makers sent us to the moon.
And the cool thing with them was that they did it all WITHOUT PINS, WITHOUT SEAM RIPPING and in ONE TRY. You couldn't use pins or re-sew seams because the spacesuits had to be airtight, so any additional holes in them were NO GOOD. They were also sewing to some STUPID tight tolerances-in our costume shop if you're within an eighth of an inch of being on the line, you're usually good. The Playtex ladies were working on tolerances of 1/32nd of an inch. 1/32nd. AND IN 21 LAYERS OF FABRIC.

Don’t ever buy cheap granny square garments! Granny squares can’t be machined. A human has to crochet every square by hand. Other knits and weaves can be made w machines, but not this one. So cheap granny square means exploited labor. Buy secondhand or pay an artisan fairly for a new piece!

As a lefty (knitting left-handed Continental since before the internet), I'd really like to see the terminology for this changed - something like Conventional (direction) / Reverse Conventional. Knitting Forwards or Backwards implies that we lefties are doing something wrong.

This week I learned 2 new 🧶techniques, and both are 🤩🤩 1. Norwegian purl - it’s just a purl stitch but done w/yarn held in back. So the motion is different from regular purling, BUT if you’re doing ribbing you can keep the yarn in the back nonstop. Action starts at 1:50 youtu.be/aKqL0koRX_s?...

Finished last night, 2nd sock took way longer bc I have the plague (covid). Pattern’s in comments on og post. Modified for fewer stitches, toe up, Fleegle heel, & reworked the bunnies a tad. The green ribbing IS shorter, your eyes are correct. I didn’t keep track of rounds 🙄🧶

Pair of co-ordinating stranded knit toe-up Easter socks. The toe is purple and yellow ticked, with a green zig zag on purple above it. Above that the background is yellow and has a light blue square motif band followed by dark pink tulips with green stems and leaves. Then there’s a light blue band with purple squares, more tulips, two lighter purple zig zags with little bright green diamonds between them before the background goes to dark pink with yellow tulips and light blue squares above them. The background changes to purple and the backs of fat yellow bunnies with fluffy lavender mohair tails sit under a band of green squares and a yellow zig zag. The cuff is light blue. The sole is all alternating stripes in the colors that wrap around from the top. The second sock matches motifs but uses the opposite colors.
