I've lost steam on a couple of projects because I know they won't be finished by then end of the weekend lol 🧶 No way it could have been done, but I did spend most of the day prepping for the next cohort of free school (soon-to-be) knitters, so it's a well-spent Saturday.

Had a request for rainbow kitty halloween costume, so here we go..! ✨🧶✨🌈✨🐱✨ I'm keeping it easy and flexible by doing kitty ears hat (done), and warmers for arms and legs, and hopefully a tail.

Not everyone is excited for me to head out to the first day of sock workshop... 🧶🧦

Not sure if I hate magic loop socks or if I just hate these needles, but I don't want to switch needles at the last bit of the second sock, so I persevere I guess 😩 I love shorties, but socks for a kindergartener are too small for shorties and my DPNs didn't want to stay in place 🧶🧦

Trying to wrap up the sock pattern before it's too late 😅 Sample is coming along! I thought the hat pattern was internet-ready, but made some notes at the hat workshop, so that needs to get finished up as well!
In-progress knit sock on double pointed needles rests on the gray-blue bedspread and laptop. Sock is cream with a highlighter yellow cuff.

Also working on my sock pattern 🧦🧶 and my chicken pattern 🐓 and my child's birthday party prep 🎂 along with a few decidedly less fun things. 🫠 ADHD is a beast.

I'm up to stuff I should be doing after what I need to do, but here are two different versions of a four-point decrease for a knit hat. Both will be in my Any Way Hat pattern+tutorial whenever I'm able to get final edits done. 🧶 Pink is how the pattern is currently written, blue is the addition
Two small knit squares sit on a white desktop, one is blue with four decreasing points that meet in the center, the other is pink and nearly the same but with more pronounced decrease lines

Kiddo is dealing with a #gluten sensitivity, but I'm prepared... made an amazing gf sourdough starter so my partner could enjoy good bread the same week I realized kiddo needed to cut gluten If you're looking for an excellent guide, I highly recommend The Art of Gluten-Free Bread by Aran Goyoaga! 🥖

The CA Jungle Primary for Gov is such a pos system. We have 61 candidates this year... including a handful of billionaires and other scum of the earth. Never trust a billionaire, folks!

Glad to see Becerra polling up for CA Gov primary. Steyer can say whatever he wants, but he is invested in detention centers, and that tells me more than all his talk... P.S. Never trust a billionaire!

I am doing the yard on the mega cheap, aka filling IKEA bags with mulch at the free community mulch spot. Did two rounds today since it'll be closed for the long weekend. And tomorrow is a 50% off end of season native plant sale at our local urban farm, so I'm gonna see what there is 🌱👀🌱

Got another round of mulch as I prep more planting area! Currently have time and not money, so I'm doing the free scoop-it-yourself piles from SMUD. It's actually nice though because it's forcing me to slow and think about what I'm planting where. ✨🌱✨

Exciting times in bean sprouting ✨🌱✨🥹 The more mature one was our first attempt, when we just sprouted a few beans that fell on the floor. The seedling pots are attempt 2, and we did a better job this time!

This is where I started ruthlessly unsubscribing from campaign fundraising texts and emails.
How much of the money raised by these groups actually makes it to candidates and party committees?

After subtracting these massive operational costs—the payments to Mothership, the fees for texting services, the cost of digital ads and list rentals—the final sum delivered to candidates and committees is vanishingly small. My analysis of the network's FEC disbursements reveals that, at most, $11 million of the $678 million raised from individuals has made its way to candidates, campaigns, or the national party committees.

But here's the number that should end all debate:

This represents a fundraising efficiency rate of just 1.6 percent.

Here's what that number means: for every dollar a grandmother in Iowa donates believing she's saving democracy, 98 cents goes to consultants and operational costs. Just pennies reach actual campaigns.

Got as much mulch as my IKEA bags could carry earlier today, then got obsessed with pulling out weed barrier from under the landscape pebbles as I moved them over to make room for my patches of mulch... I am tired and there is so so so much more to do! But it's raining so I'm on forced pause.
An open station wagon trunk full of blue IKEA bags filled with wood chips. A shovel lays diagonally across the top.

Stephanie Working Yarns @workingyarns.bsky.social · 05/05/2026
Please do not use weed barrier, particularly not the plastic stuff. 1) it doesn't work, the weeds always break through 2) they'll be harder to pull bc the soil under will be hard 3) plastics leech + micro plastics = not great Whether you like rock or mulch, please let the soil breathe.
