BG3 SPOILERS!! When the game throws you the Emperor sex scene followed up by Mizora right after, you let it ride to see what happens--nearly getting dumped & feeling that you really should have. This easy-to-miss* Long Rest scene has extra dialogue for smaller folk. "of your stature" is only three words, but this is all voice acted. Lill only has 5 approval with him at this point, btw. The mask, and he's ALL mask at this stage, slips just a smidge... because he hates gnomes that much.

Astarion, speaking to a gnome Tav: I'm not normally impressed by people of your stature, but you're stronger than I gave you credit for.

"by people of your stature" is surrounded by a red box to make it stand out.

Fascinating find in a museum in Stari Grad, on the island of Hvar in Croatia. This is a clay mold from around 300 BCE, used by Ancient Greeks to make game pieces! Games are truly universal. (Nearby, a clay tablet was found accusing the devs of being lazy.)

Oh, but we do have fun here... Sorry Halsin, you've only barely... er bearly made moves so far... you will, you definitely will, but not just yet. Previous Tav wanted nothing to do with clown face. This Tav was all in. Might apply it again for... certain scenes... I fucking love this game.

Merek, wizard dressed in dark red robes embroidered in silver and gold and wearing clown make up that matches stands next to what looks like a dejected Halsin. Halsin only looks that way due to coincidence.

Zethino says, "Your eyes, stira. There is pain, endless and deep. But also devotion - blazing like the son. You're in love, are you not?"

From last night runs: Astarion during the love test in Act 3 vs. Astarion in Act 1 upon immediately meeting Karlach. Um, SPOILERS if you've never ever played or heard about BG3 --- "STOP TELLING EVERYONE OUR BUSINESS!!" vs. "HI, STRANGER! I'M A VAMPIRE AND HERE'S MY TRAUMA!!"

Astarion (Act 3) disapproves during Zethino's love test if you decide to share what you know he fears most.

Astarion responds: "Really? I mean, yes, but - really? You'd tell whatever stranger walked up and asked?"

I will take the -4 disapproval every time for this. If you don't know, you still get the best reaction at the end for this.

Astarion (Act 1) upon immediately meeting Karlach (after dealing with the "paladins") and discussing where they'd be if they weren't taken by mind flayers.

Karlach: I mean, I know where I'd be. Trapped in Avernus still, with the Blade of Frontiers on my tail. But what about you?

Astarion response choices:
1) Prowling Baldur's Gate at night, finding victims I can lure back to Cazador (selected)
2) I'd be back in my home, not a care in the world.
3) I'd be in the middle of another adventure, blessedly free of any tadpole.
4) So much has happened, I can barely remember what life was like before abduction.

Ignore Gale in his enchanted underwear... or enjoy it if you want... I accidentally sold his robe to the "paladin" merchant I just killed. That oddly feels more in character, unlike option 1.

Note, he hasn't even mentioned Cazador to the other companions at this point! What's even more surprising is Karlach's response... she acts as if she's been in the party a long time.

I'm starting to wonder if the mod to break the party limit is breaking a lot more or if this is there regardless. The banter is very off in my Act 3 run.

Oversharing Astarion is amusing in the meantime however. I can relate! And it's not too wildly OOC because once he does open up, it's a fucking flood during any other run. It's just surprising to see it this soon! He'd still be giving the annoyed/bothered, "...Yes?" when you try to talk to him.

Work is pissing me off and I rather think of this, so... okay, this fucked with my head. I already had the Gale weave scene. Lae'zel was up next. I sat with this a bit and decided, knowing what I know, to RP it as Astarion. Spoilers and analysis in the alt text. Content warning for SA.

Lae'zel: "Let me show you. Close your eyes - and submit."

Responses:
1) Close your eyes. You are hers.
2) [INTIMIDATION] That isn't how it's going to go. You submit to me. (selected)
3) Submit? What do you intend to do?
4) I've changed my mind

After the first camp cut scene that ends with him either biting a companion or leaving to hunt, I had him bite Lae'zel. The whole point of that scene was he's testing how free of Cazador's control he is. What could he could now get away with. Feeding on "thinking creatures" being forbidden. Now he was able to without repercussions. At least in the save I kept (I bit Gale and that went badly and I did end up killing Lae'zel the first time).

Lae'zel is telling him to submit to her here. It made sense to me for him to resist in the first sexual encounter he's had any agency in for centuries. I actually failed this roll the first time,which didn't help this feel any less fucked up.

Got it on the second roll. Even then, I was still uncomfortable. Something I didn't feel at all when I made the same choices on my first Tav.

Yes, I used an image of the happy advantage that shows up on rolls to cover up Lae's nip and make this safe for work!

The next morning at camp. Lae'zel is surprised to see he can still move...

Lae'zel, in reference to his body: "Perhaps I might find use for it again."

Response options:
1) Any chance of sharing our bunks again anytime soon? (selected)
2) I'm ending our fling, if one can call it that.
3) Wait for me in camp.
4) Leave.

Oof! I chose the first option for now. Why? Because Lae'zel is still assuming a leadership role and it would be advantageous to bond with her. It's transactional. Something that's been "second nature" for him for a very long time. It's why he comes on to Tav initially. However, he now has full agency.

I love Lae'zel and I love where she ends up by the end of the game. I would love to have tried to go for this romance. However, someone telling him she might want to use his body again, at this stage in the story?... yeah... no. Fuck no.

So, I will have him end it (and possibly open up Shadowheart who had an option that went away after this.)

This. Fucking. Game.

It was only a matter of time before I started a certain BG3 Origin run, ok? Dissecting characters I like is A. Thing. I. Do. So call this "research" even if it is fueled by no small amount of... spite. When the discourse annoys, I research... anyway it's been very interesting so far! SPOILERS ETC.

Screenshot taken immediately after yoinking Gale out of the wall. Astarion, in his origin run, immediately has the option to share he's a spawn. This is also an option with every companion. Which is very amusing to me for some reason. I was going to see how long I could keep it going but then visited Gandrel who ruined my plans. Gale was then like, "YO, I KNEW it!"

Gale: How can I help?

Well, that went great! I think!😬🫣 BG3 SPOILERS!! What's different this run, what's the same: Different: romancing Gale and the consequences if you are also romancing Astarion. No poly mod. This has several ways it could go, none great, but this is the route I took and on my main save.

Astarion, looking disgusted, says to Tav, "I am not interested in being in any love triangle that involves Gale."

Gale, while breaking up with him after sleeping with him for the first, and only time, on the night he's contemplating blowing himself up, "An icicle through the heart would have been kinder."

This hurts even more when you realize I have ice dagger as a spell and could, literally, do this.
