I was just adding some facts to the narrative you posted. I thought it was incomplete and thought the diagnosis about interconnection and planning wasn't really relevant. I like the transmission parts but not advocating for or against the bill (although I think the data center provisions are solid)

The line was designed to move specific generation that could only be built because of the line. The generation and transmission were developed jointly. No queue problem.

Financing is definitely a challenge, but that's related to long permitting timelines and litigation risks. Investors don't want to put up the money for projects that take 10+ years. Interconnection is relevant generally but I don't think for SunZia.

The 2015 ROD took 7 years, and it didn't authorize construction. It required SunZia to draft a cultural resources inventory, which kicked off a process under NHPA run by BLM. BLM approved in 2023, which was then litigated. cdn.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/op...

New ISO-NE heatmap shows that we could knock down Harvard University and replace it with 177 MW of renewables and would not need to upgrade the local transmission system.

No. Liberty Utilities -- which delivers electricity to 49,000 homes and businesses in the Lake Tahoe area -- needs to find a new supplier. Liberty knew this was coming. It is conducting an RFP. Everything will be fine. But yes, NV Energy wants to provide the energy it generates to data centers.

Nice piece by @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social in the NYT. Draws readers in by leading with AI data centers (timely, newsworthy, hot) but then pivots to regional transmission governance, a topic no one reads about by choice. Also has fancy graphics. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

There may have been a couple of utilities that joined a brief actually defending the CPP. And while nationwide we achieved the CPP targets pretty quickly, that's somewhat different from compliance, which fell on individual sources. Again, I apologize for intruding but I felt triggered. Sorry.

Ari Peskoe @aripeskoe.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
Sorry to disagree but you've stepped on a pet peeve. The utility industry via EEI did not support the CPP in WV v EPA. It argued against an extreme decision that could have jeopardized their shield from tort liability under the CAA.

I have two pieces today on how a 1990s FERC policy intended to spur competitive markets is being understood to prevent data centers from covering their transmission costs. FERC Comment: elibrary.ferc.gov/eLibrary/fil... UtilityDive: www.utilitydive.com/news/ferc-tr...

An outdated FERC policy is undermining the White House’s ratepayer protection pledge
FERC should revisit its transmission pricing policy and require utilities to assign the full costs of service to power-hungry data centers, writes Harvard’s Ari Peskoe.

I regret my decision to watch the White House / Big Tech press conference about their "ratepayer protection pledge." The highlight was when he went off-script and admitted that this is all about providing "PR help" to Big Tech companies.
