It is now possible to see more Pronghorn in a single winters day than there were on the entire Canadian prairies a hundred years ago. The Canadian pop'n once declined to 3000- 5000 individuals , but now stands ~40K.

Janice and her granddaughter, Penny. You can see how their eyes swivel in this video. Their pupils typically stay level to the ground to scan the horizon for predators. It’s such a cool adaptation. The resemblance between these two is uncanny, both in looks and attitude. 🤎🖤

Two little chèvre’s from our goats. Two years ago, we started a backyard goat farm and this year I learned to make cheese. It’s been a journey to get to this point and we’ve got lots of goals ahead. We are so grateful for our goats and their hard work. It’s been a privilege to work with them.

I do a lot of hiking here in Los Cerrillos. I often ponder the ocean that used to be here and what sort of creatures swam along the trails I now walk over. Sometimes you can sense them in the night, when the wind blows and sounds just like the sea. 🌊 “Bones From Those First”, gouache on paper.

Trying to figure this out again as I wade through massive burnout. I was a really awkward kid that spent a lot of time alone. I think drawing gave me a ways to connect to other kids and to entertain myself. Sometimes I wonder if drawing was a way to hide my weirdness or a very deep fixation. Both?

Krascheninnikovia lanata or winterfat. A fluffy shrub that blooms during the colder months here in the mountain west. It is an important protein source for herbivores in the winter and was used as a sheep forage, hair wash, and fever relief by various indigenous folks in the region.
