OpenPaX kernel trees now live as part of the @edera.dev unified kernel repository, which means they will be able to benefit from planned automated rebasing in the near future. Mainline, presently 7.3-rc3: github.com/edera-dev/li... and, of course, 6.18 LTS: github.com/edera-dev/li...

The US is targeting the anarchist collective that hosts the popular Noblogs wordpress platform as terrorists. This is truly batshit (as are their various obvious lies about Rose City Antifa etc). This is a HUGE attack on basic free speech. www.state.gov/releases/off...

#pkgconf 3.0.6 has been released, bringing multi-module --variable queries, OS/2 support, and Windows long-path awareness. it also drops the PC061 (CR-LF line-endings) lint because it is very noisy on Windows.

The thing about economic downturns, especially in the middle of the bubble like this, is the consumers end up the ultimate judge of everything. Suddenly McDonald's doesn't cost $20 anymore. Suddenly Anthropic has a change of heart as they watch their user base evaporate.

And no, don't even get me started on this "vulnerability clearinghouse" idea. This idea is stupid and dangerous, for a number of reasons, but most importantly, the clearinghouses will automatically become extremely high value targets for attackers to breach.

At the same time, I might experiment with setting up my own code review bot running self-hosted GLM and Kimi models and hope it provides the same level of surveillance.

Inevitably, someone will say: "just apply for the OpenAI OSS grant, it includes Codex Security." This "solves" my problem at the expense of appearing like I endorse this technology (I don't) and is limited to 6 months (so I have to do this all over again in 6 months).

I am likely to take the policy position that AI-assisted bug reports are banned from my projects in their entirety because the AI companies make individual FOSS maintainers jump through hoops to run the scans. I would rather file CVE disputes than play this game anymore.

some thoughts: - initramfs is a key component of alpine's early boot process, we would not drop it in any circumstance, even on systems running from disk - Google's LoadPin LSM already solves this problem on chromeOS. we should implement support.

Seattle very clearly wants rail expansion. Sound Transit will alienate its core supporters and create massive political problems for itself if it proceeds with the Somers plan. It is time for wiser heads to prevail. We need city, county, and state leaders to intervene and stop ST from gutting ST3.

interestingly, openpax kernels kill the exploit early in the exploit chain. either way, 6.18.28 fixes it for everyone. but it goes to show the danger of #SUID binaries and why SUID-less solutions like #capsudo are important.
050
Ariadne Conill 🐰 @ariadne.space · 08/05/2026
the #dirtyfrag exploit does not run successfully on alpine because the path to the donor SUID binary is hardcoded as /usr/bin/su. changing that to /bin/bbsuid allows the exploit to run, but it hangs for me on linux-lts 6.18.27.
170
Ariadne Conill 🐰 @ariadne.space · 08/05/2026
the exploit fails because it runs /usr/bin/su instead of /bin/su as the donor SUID binary. modifying it to use /bin/bbsuid causes the exploit to hang. on OpenPaX kernel, the exploit is killed due to a memory safety violation

this is a great proposal and one that i think is worth studying. sound transit is already over-committed to light rail for the “spine” service, but building ballard/west seattle rail as an automated light *metro* makes an incredible amount of sense. our neighbours to the north have proved it.
