They told me it might never go back to the way it was. Even today, I don't believe them, atleast not in my case, that may be hope or delusion. I teach bystander intervention for a living and have taught de-escalation to law enforcement. Trust me when I say that bottle girls, gas station clerks, strippers, front desk employees at hotels and airports, baristas, etc. have better de-escalation skills than any cop I've ever seen.

In Germany, in most schools teachers are required to either start calling students sir and ma'am too once they reach adulthood or ask the students to call them by their first names to create a feeling of equality once the teachers are no longer required to be figures of authority.

Well, in the school I went to, we all knew the teachers' first names. We never called them by it until we graduated (after that we startes to if we stayed in contact), but if colleagues called them or were talking amongst themselves, we always knew who was who.
