We documented a violent tornado near West Plains, Missouri on March 14, 2025. The most intense tornado I’ve ever chased. The roar sounded evil as it moved in with extreme RFD winds associated with a very wide circulation. Extreme damage also occurred near Bakersfield-South Fork, Missouri.

A late season "transitional" trough is racing across the plains, and should produce some tornadoes tomorrow. But they aren't likely to be this kind - well structured, surrounded by dry air, slow moving, and easy to see. Can't wait for more of these.

I captured these 4 photos in 2024. What an incredible year for astronomy!
Photo of a total solar eclipse. The moon is nearly completely covered the bright sun forming a “black hole” with sunlight around it. The bright light from the sun casts a “diamond ring” effect. Photo captured on April 8, 2024 near Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Photo of a green, white, and purple/link auroral corona. This is looking straight up at overhead aurora as it pulsates and dances in vibrant colors and a “starburst” effect. Photo captured on May 10, 2024 near Watertown, South Dakota.Photo of a partial lunar eclipse. The light of the sun casts a yellow hue to the moon as the earth’s shadow partially eclipses the north section of the moon dimming the light into a shadow onto the moon, its craters still visible. Photo captured on September 17, 2024 near Watertown, South Dakota.Photo of comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS as it moves away from earth. The light of the dust, rock, and ice from the space rock casts a long tail with a bright front end of the comet. The dark sky contrasts with the bright comet and stars shining behind. A faint anti-tail leading ahead of the comet is also visible. Photo captured on October 14, 2024 near Miller, South Dakota.
