It so weird when you see someone asking for fanfic-recs. Any fanfic, no specific fandom given. Just fanfic because they are just now getting into fanfic. I have the same reaction when I see people just look for specific tropes or kinks, not caring about the fandom.

Covid? I'm old enough to remember flamewars via email lists leading to splits and new list being created. Archives as well. Some of these fights could go on for months with people getting dogpiled and being forced out of that section of fandom. Or even fandom overall. Really bad was racefail'09.
