I was just talking to my 80something mom about the glories of this series!

So far, Mike Flanagan’s CARRIE tv series is pretty darn good.

Not to harp on my Obsession disgust but sorrynotsorry I’m gonna. A discussion on the film came up, I responded with my thoughts & piece & (unsurprisingly & frustratingly) the men in the conversation were like: it’s just not for you. NO SHIT. You don’t say. But have you thought about why you like it?

Ariel 아리엘 @archivistariel.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

That was also my first thought- especially since I watched it LITERALLY days after Wallach passed- like how is this your *first* wish? What kind of pet owner ARE you?

You have no idea how happy this makes me

Korea is awesome because a man just literally quacked at me as I left the bathroom. Yes, like a duck.

Very behind on this one. VERY THROWN AND IMPRESSED. Blood Quantum (Jeff Barnaby, 2019) is one of the best horror films I’ve seen in I have no idea how many years.

I love watching you succeed. It makes my day every with every post!

I started to write another piece but I just don’t have the energy to work on it so I’m gonna watch another horror film instead

It’s amazing that the film that has the most to say about 2026 takes place in 1634 and was made in 1971. See it in theaters next week.

HOLD ONTO YOUR TITS, ITS THE RELEASE OF THE YEAR! Includes my commentaries on Latin Quarter + Lighthouse Keepers, and (with @thehorrorchick.bsky.social + Mr B) video essays on Wizard of Gore + the many adaptations of Andre De Lorde's proto home invasion play Au Telephone (Lois Weber! Me: here’s my opinion on z movie bc it’s not great for women and I happen to be a woman. Men: yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man. Me: yeah, yeah, I guess it is. 🤷‍♀️

I’m still missing Wallach terribly but Meowng-ja is such a great addition to my life here in Seoul.

I got the opportunity to buy it when I first moved here almost 7 years ago and I couldn’t NOT frame it. It’s always been a dating litmus test film for me- if my partner can dig it or get through it & “get it” we will probably work out for a bit.

Alice Guy-Blaché (1873-1968) was the first female film director ever (1896), as well as the first filmmaker to make a narrative fiction film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_G.... She experimented with the Chronophone sync-sound system, and with color-tinting, interracial casting, and special effects.

Thank you. ❤️ That was the other thing about Obsession- how was he not sad about his damn cat???? I was annoyed to hell on that front.

Matt is one of the best guys I’ve ever known and one of the best film pals I’ve ever had. If you’ve ever been a fan of Warner Archives discs, he probably had a hand in some of that magic.

Right? It’s *still* playing in the theaters. Which (as you know) is like playing for years for Korea.

It's not terribly long, but I wanted to get it out there. Meowngja has proven herself a very good writing companion! So not only is she good for film-watching, she's good for writing. 2 for 2!

Maybe I will just do a whole piece on it. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it.

I don't like what it says about women.

I’m actually planning a piece on how I dislike the term “elevated horror” so maybe I will put something in there.
