Text from the monument reductions: 1) Like any of the people who wrote this could identify a lithic scatter on the best day they ever had, and 2) they for sure don't get to say what is of "scientific interest." 🏺⚱️

Will this get as much press as the original article? Besides the indomitable Kristina Killgrove, of course, who called this from the jump. 🏺

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

I am admittedly biased, but all this about Monte Verde seems awfully sensationalized and overwrought. Like Science mag is being clickbaitey, not acknowledging the flaws in the methodology and conclusions, and at the least not giving Dillehay and co. space to respond immediately

Screenshot of a tweet by Ann Coulter that reads, “We didn’t kill enough Indians,” quote-tweeting another post by Marina Medvin. Medvin’s tweet includes a photo of a Native American woman speaking into a microphone at a panel. The tweet says, “Letters radicals at ‘Socialism 2025’ conference are giddily discussing the destruction of America. This woman is a college professor.”

It's sad that we have to equate people with Nazis rather than noting they're not Nazis, but simply the latest in the long American tradition of racist, misogynist, xenophobic, bigoted, jingoistic, anti-education, hateful, exploitative capitalists.

The fun thing about grant monies is that they go straight back into the economy. They buy supplies. They pay stipends. They make discoveries. They aren't invested, they are all spent. They have to be. And if they'ree spent overseas, the local economies are boosted and more US products are imported.
