Can somewhere be loved to death? ‘Bridge of Sighs’ is a fast-paced new murder mystery set in Edinburgh and northern Scotland. The beautiful village of Plockton has an important part to play at the start of the book. Available as a Kindle, Kobo or Apple: www.arachnid.scot/book-bos/ind...
Plockton in Wester Ross. The image shows a view along a street that starts across the foot of the frame and continues into its lower centre before turning right, out of sight. The left side of the street is lined with a long terrace of white or dark stone houses and cottages with cars parked in front of them. On the right side of the road are low walls with gardens to their right, some with exotic-looking trees. In the background is a hillside beyond the houses, rising to a skyline with trees. The sky is blue. The front cover of ‘Bridge of Sighs’ is shown in the bottom right corner.

Jack Poole and family were real pioneers; they brought a cinématograph to Edinburgh as early as 1898. In 1921 he introduced live sound effects into silent pictures: literally bringing part of the house down on one occasion. He was one of the very first to appreciate the potential of sound-on-film 📽️
Newsprint photo of John Reginald “Jack” Poole in 1938, a campaign photo for his election to the Town Council published in the Edinburgh Evening News. A slightly rotund man with thinning hair in a good suit, looking wistfully at the camera with his head supported by a hand.Advert for Till The Bells Ring at the Synod Hall, Scotsman, 15th October 1926. Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence
