Sure, this might be significant and influential, and I get that some others were sort of Catholic, but I love "openly Catholic" which makes it sound like others have previously had mates round to sing some Byrd masses in private and had a Priest hole installed in No10

Some good people here, Leunig especially, but although I'm sure she does great charity work, being a certain age I can't quite get my head around someone I found to be an annoying kids/tweens TV presenter being in the Lords

This is some kind of dictation fail on the cricket updates of the BBC Sport pages, isn't it, rather than someone who simply can't write? Either way, does nobody check before it's published? Is there any editorial oversight at all? What's happened to any semblance of standards?
A BBC Sport text update on Sussex v Hampshire, containing at least 4 nonsensical sentences/non-standard English such as "match is set to be come down to an exciting conclusion"

Not David's point, but I find that headline highly amusing... reads as if they're going to move the whole country. There again, if Antwerp were moved to Oman that would save a lot of transit time

Ah another convert to the "Gift Aid is an undemocratic scam whereby I can make you, my fellow taxpayer, pay to support causes of my own choosing, be they Israel or donkey sanctuaries, and it should be scrapped" view?

Wowsers, fire at one of the works (scrap metals? Not sure) on Lewisham/Millwall area right next to @serailway.bsky.social mainline into London Bridge. Close enough to feel notably warmer (and smoky) as train went past. Some major disruption about to occur I think!

Fantastic crimes against data (and standard spelling) in this BBC article on lower ranked tennis players
A BBC Sport graphic which compares the recent earnings of the male and female players ranked 1 and 100, but then puts the % of total earning from Grand Slams into a nonsensical combined pie chart for the two players. This also doesn't do the thing its headline claims ("Why players are so dependant (sic) on Grand Slam money")

Got to admit, this brightened up my Friday when I opened it last night. If you were singled out as a Dunce at school, you can still make it as a mayoral candidate, that's the British dream

So here we have seating arrangements for 10 people, ie it's not just people distancing, but one of these going to the press... Presume it's Vance and/or Rubio, who come out of this article merely spineless (and still hugely complicit), compared with the other enablers
Excerpt from NYT piece listing attendees at a war planning meeting, including their seating positions, implying it is one of those ten providing the info to the NYT

This is also arbitrary within the area: I'm in such an area and I *think* I'm allowed panels as the location we'd have them is away from the road. But if you're over the other side, and the best roof for solar is towards the road, then no deal

Just been approached by Huel to see if I'll be part of their paid influencer campaign. I don't think they're quite across what I do for a living. (FWIW, and in the interests of having influence, I regard Huel as a soul destroying, miserable product and the death of all that is worth living for.)

Sorry, attempting to deport whole sections of population/citizenship, restrict freedoms in education, change voting rights and using the unconstrained power of federal govt to do so isn't "centralising power" and "societal transformation"?! What even are words meaning these days?

Under-remarked on aspect of this (presumably false) claim is that it suggests the admin doesn't believe in the power of the US nuclear deterrent, or at least not in this context*. Will anyone ask "so if you think we can't deter bad actors from a nuclear strike, why do we bother with our deterrent?"

Amongst all the other nonsense, have they not got a response already?! This decision was not beyond the wit of man to predict at least as a possibility. Or is the arrogance so deep they really hadn't considered losing?

What a load of rubbish this is. Fails to explain that the US is no longer a close ally and partner. Emphasises benefits Starmer has got over and above others via the special relationship. Not only false [the deal is off!] but this non-solidarity with the EU is what made us all weaker.

I'm struck, as a Spurs fan,.about a certain affinity between Thomas Frank and Kier Starmer... Directionless, chat about "pragmatism", a claim of values but no obvious example of what those values are Has anyone done this yet?!

My one pause over this otherwise very plausible Occam's Razor explanation is that he at least phrases it in terms of security, Russia, some kind of manifest destiny... like he at least has the depth, or the advisors, necessary to avoid saying our loud "I just want to make USA bigger"

There are FOUR ghosts!
Christmas Carol (1999): David Warner as Bob Crachit and Patrick Stewart as Scrooge. Warner would guest star on the Star Trek TNG as Cardasian officer Gul Madred, Capt. Picard's jailer and torturer, in the episodes, "Chain Of Command," parts 1 and 2.

Sort of post that makes me regret that Dillow doesn't have more books and wider influence (probably down to same sort of dynamics he illustrates here) - I still have End of Politics on my reading list for my A-Level students but increasingly feels like someomthing from another age even if still true
