i don't think either of those are genuine or authentic actually
A screenshot of the CPUID Wikipedia page. It says that the Microsoft x86-to-ARM emulator reports its ID string as "AuthenticAMD" and that Apple's Rosetta 2 reports its ID string as "GenuineIntel".

i think it's really, really bad that the most viable way for most websites to defend against attacks nowadays is to have a single company that hosts/defends/funds harassment groups/fascists and provides services to booters who do these kinds of attacks for payment act as a middleman to your server

@gildilinie on modern UEFI systems, if your usb stick has a fat32 partition, it is already bootable; you would just need to put a .efi executable at `/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI` (case-insensitive) and it should boot that when you select the drive during bootup unfortunately i don't recall the […]

@gildilinie the ISO9660/joliet filesystem was intended for usage with read-only optical media, not rewritable solid-state block storage; it is very inefficient for the latter usecase (which happens to be the most common usecase nowadays!), and simply throwing files into a FAT32 partition is more […]

i would really like to see a distro deliver its install medium as a unified system image (USI) someday imagine the install steps for a major distro being "extract this zip file to a usb stick and boot from it", no reformatting/flashing required

back panel and lspci pics
The back of the system I used for this (a Dell Optiplex 5040). There are 3 expansion cards inserted, from left to right: a parallel/serial port card, a PCI soundcard with a speaker output, microphone and line inputs, and a gameport, and a DVI capture card with a VGA adapter attached. To the left there are some USB ports and an Ethernet port.A picture showing the output of the "lspci" Linux command on this machine. Various internal devices (mostly from the onboard Intel chipset) are listed, but there's also notably an ESS Solo-1 soundcard, an Asix AX99100 serial/parallel controller, and a Datapath VisionRGB multimedia card.

this is a quite modern (released in the last decade) system playing back chiptunes on a 30 year old PCI sound card with an OPL3-based FM synthesis core inside no emulation, no adapters, no converters, all native support

so i finally found a way to "enforce" checks (making them unable to be dismissed and marking the translations as "needs editing"), but i can't seem to figure out how to enable the "translation quality filter" that should block any translations marked as "needs editing" from being committed

still upset at this, nearly every submission i get is filled with invalid strings that i have to manually revert or else they will break my application is there really not a way to both automatically apply checks to any new strings in a group and reject all strings that fail even a single check

trying to find an image/animation that looks really bad when quantized/dithered (e.g. converted to GIF), but is still mostly fine with lossy compression codecs (of note vp8, and specifically webp's usage of it)
