Can't wait to see Caleb Porter's Sims 2 neighborhood that is fully populated by former Hoosiers and Zips he coached.

Don't stop at those two. Let's ravage all countries with the letter B as revenge. Bhutan? Watch out. Bulgaria? You can't hide. Bolovia? Don't even think about it.

@rodger.bsky.social What's the record number of jerseys used in a single World Cup match by a single player? Asking for Chadi Rial.

Can you put this behind a billion dollar paywall in Bosnia and Sandy, Utah? Either USA gets the advantage on Wednesday or you get a billion dollars. Seems like a win-win.

Serious question: Sometimes I open via the link I see from BlueSky. Sometimes I open the email. Does that mess up your metrics? Is it better for you to open one way or the other?

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:

If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker

You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.

Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?

@rodger.bsky.social We might need a World Cup fashion watch. The manager for Bosnia and Herzegovina is rocking a $5000 double breasted navy suit with gold buttons... with a plain crew neck white shirt underneath.

In all fairness, they might only be two decisions away from being very good. 1. Replacing the GM. 2. Replacing the manager.

Thank you for your closing note reminding us that this is our country, our flag, and our athletes. The Olympics has been a bit of bright spot through what has been a dark winter in our country, and your statement reminds us that this hope doesn't have to end in Italy.

Last night during the Pairs free skates, Johnny Weir mentioned the Polish team wanted pierogi hats - but they didn't arrive in time so they settled for the emotional support pierogi. I'm simultaneously gutted and grateful at this development.

@rodger.bsky.social During the first run of the Women's Giant Slalom, I heard the broadcasters mention that - unlike other teams - Brignone did not share course conditions with her fellow Italian Goggia. Feels like a Wendy'-adjacent situation:"What's the beef?" Did Goggia also steal a credit card?

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

2. The Bundle has well reviewed games. I like that Humble Bundle shows the Steam rating and I wish Fanatical did this as well. 3. How often a game is bundled. I am more likely to purchase games that rarely appear in bundles vs. ones that appear often.

Aubrey "A Pizzle" @apizzle.bsky.social · 18/08/2025

I think me pu chasing the bundle depends on these factors: 1. The Bundle has games relevant to my interests. Some sort of feature on Deku Deals that said "this game is like this ____ game you already own / rated" would be very beneficial.

I was an immigration lawyer for about fifteen years. The people I met… the way they wanted to give their absolute best to this country, and then DID. Skills, ideas, beauty, culture… that’s what they bring. America is a nation of immigrants, and immigration is what made America.

Do you have a sense of how the size of the Timbers front office staff compares to other MLS teams? I know the annual analytics survey by ASA continually highlights the Timbers is one of a few teams that fails to have a stats person on staff, but that's the only window we have.

A large part of it for me is that almost all conversation around the team was joyless. Every victory was looked at through the lens of the 2018 and 2022 failures. Every defeat - even minor ones - was surrounded by negativity directed at the players, coaches, and federation.

000

Aubrey "A Pizzle" @apizzle.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Thorns. You get to be on the ground floor or something new and exciting, plus it feels the team is closer to competing for trophies again. The Timbers will take multiple seasons to fix and it's not clear if ownership has the funds needed to compete long term.

I'd go with the White Rose. Automatic lore on entry and the stat line is useable.
