I think he has the necessary fire in his belly to just fucking go at these people HARD, and I want that more than any other trait in a presidential candidate. Biden didn’t have it in him or we’d be living in a very different world.

I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.

I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day.

And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.

I almost had a panic attack at the hair salon yesterday when they showed me their scheduling app and I could see all the names. I was like, “I am going to be sued!” HIPAA is terrifying. There are inadvertent HIPAA mistakes but “pt info disclosure by front desk” is so egregious it is not happening.

The thing is, patient information is stored in secure systems that require HIPAA training to access, and HIPAA training is bright red font screaming at you that you’ll have to pay a million dollars if you make one single HIPAA mistake in your life. It is HAMMERED into you. So there’s simply no way.

Every healthcare provider on earth immediately knows this is fake as shit because if a front desk person disclosed patient information like this, the entire facility would be subject to tens of thousands in HIPAA fines and lawsuits. Mental health facilities are not hotels.

I love Melanie so much!!! But I’m kind of voting for Haaland out of necessity. I don’t think she’s terrible. Just (as you said) underwhelming.

Some of this is also candidate quality - she pissed off a lot of Dems wading into the Lt. Gov race, she’s not super willing to go on TV with local press, perception is that she won’t debate. Also fairly tied to Biden. Older establishment in a moment when many people want younger progressive.

(Like I genuinely think the smart move here would have been one of our boring senators for governor and Stansbury for senate, but it didn’t work out that way so I guess it’s going to go how it goes.)

I kind of wonder about NM too. We don’t have a strong Dem gov candidate. I don’t really know many people who are voting for her vs. against the shitty MAGA candidate. I’m hoping it will be okay, but I will not be surprised if it’s pretty close. (Frankly having some anxiety about it.)

The thin pad ones are genuinely awful!

Meredith MPH @apistogramma.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I don’t know that I’d get a huge one over another washable rug if you’re just going to have to hose it off either way. But the 5x7 ones are my ride or die! Genuinely would have had to replace any other rug ten times over.

Meredith MPH @apistogramma.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
So the difference between ruggable lovers and ruggable haters is which pad they select. I have 3 5x7 on the thick pad. I love them. Easy to wash in my home washer, have survived stains from spaghetti sauce to red wine to explosive dog stomach upset. But I had one on the thin pad and DESPISED it.

If you think they’d work for the purpose and that’s the whole priority, these seem like they’d fit. If you’re wanting something fashionable, I don’t think these are it. Too clunky.

…yeah, reading between the lines, the fact that the president is having to weigh in on the SC senate race is a sign of how utterly catastrophic next month is likely to be for Republicans.

As a fun pro tip that I learned (pretty sure from @tkingfisher.com?)— if you’re traveling and don’t have a store membership, (local area code) + 867-5309 will almost always pull up an account. Got me $4 off laundry detergent on my trip!

This is the thing - I live in a state with universal childcare and since it’s free plenty of SAHM’s use it. It’s still helpful to have a morning to do other things. Also, some SAHM do so because their salaries would be less than the cost of daycare. UC allows them to go back to work if they want!

Super hard to say because I literally have never paid any attention to that! I guess my interview etiquette skills are lacking.

The candidate, who came to us live from his bed for his zoom interview. It happened to have red satin sheets. The entire committee was in a teams chat like, “Are we being pranked??? What is happening???” I’m still a little concerned I might be on OnlyFans in some sort of interview kink channel.

I’ve conducted probably well over a hundred interviews in my life, and there have been… two? … that I felt were unprofessional enough to warrant disqualification. One involved a screaming baby. The other involved a missing shirt. Nail polish? Iced coffee? Who ARE these people?

I think Ossoff is going to carry her, but I agree that it’s going to be close. But there is a part of me that is starting to think polling is not catching the degree of outrage in the electorate about gas prices. I am genuinely starting to wonder if this cycle will end up looking like VA/NJ gov.

I just wish they had asked who these people were voting for! Such a miss. (Although the fact that it’s a minimum of three or four just based on them literally saying it in answers, plus two “I’m not voting,” should probably be a screaming alarm for Republicans.)

I fell in love with apple history reading “The Botany of Desire” in college — it’s such an amazing mirror of American history writ large. I’m always reminded that “as American as apple pie” means an American story that began with immigrants carrying hope and trees across oceans.

I do think any goodwill she’s kept there might slam shut in a hurry once people start having to buy heating oil at current prices, particularly if a 90 day oil export embargo impacts prices in the NE.

…a caesar salad is basically dressing and croutons. There is nothing to speak for it except the dressing. If you wanted to eat a Cobb without ranch/blue cheese, that’s still an actual meal. But a caesar without dressing is… lettuce. Of course it’s gross, you’re eating unadorned lettuce.

My friend has a large Facebook following that skews pretty conservative, and he made a post about gas prices. Anecdotal sample, but to me it was absolutely WILD the number of three-time Trump voters who are furious that he lied about keeping us out of wars or who are just livid about gas prices.

Voters are fundamentally selfish creatures and sure, they might vote in favor of pretend harm to imaginary kids in a regular year, but when it takes $375 to fill up your truck, you’re starting to weigh imagined problems versus real problems that are in your face. People choose selfishly every time.

Also, like, the Republican strategy on ads and attacks seems to be back to “they support trans people” and… is it possible that will sway a few voters? Sure. But if that is the only card you’ve got to play when prices are looking like this, you are absolutely fucked.

I have struggled with being hopeful but a part of me is starting to think running the table on the genuine toss ups (ME, OH, TX, AK, and IA) might… actually be a possibility if gas stays this high for the month. People are absolutely furious.

Do I think we’re taking Iowa by 8? No. But I think we’re starting to see these high single digit leads in polls over and over - some of which are from high quality pollsters - and I think if you separate the signal from the noise, it’s a massive, glaring red light that the electorate is PISSED.

My friend’s cousin is a reliable Republican voter and she’s super mad about Talarico and the trans stuff, but she’s ALSO super mad about Paxton letting a pedophile out of jail. I don’t think she’s going to vote. So my hope is that there’s a group that just stays home!

I also think it’s worth noting that a big enough win here actually is protective, long term - it allows state level Dems to put protections in place. It gives an incumbency advantage to a ton of Democrats going forward. It tees us up for the hard work of 2028. Every Dem seat matters.
