The ai stuff upsets me but it's but the reason the experience itself is bad. It's sorta a problem with a lot of ux now. It's designed to elongate your "active" time in the app

Legitimately fuck duolingo I maintained my streak kinda to prove to myself I could be accountable for something long-term, and wasn't paying for it But God it's insufferable, with UX that actively makes me loathe learning, and that's ignoring the other problems.

I really want to self-host a "gallery" on my own website so that I can just upload drawings there and grab them, but I don't know enough about front-end for like gallery/shadowbox stuff or how to make it easy to add captions/links/folders Manual html every time seems like the not good way to do it.

27GL850 It's not that it looks bad per se, but I don't have an external calibration device for my monitors and the default profile is ass. Plus HDR is just inconsistent from source to source

Art critique meaning like, having folks share the pieces they're working on or made and getting feedback or asking for advice :3

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 12/09/2026

I'd love to do an art critique stream on Twitch and MAYBE do a dry run of my ASC panel to get a feel for the pacing. Would folks be interested in that if I started at like 4 Pacific?

Big recommendation to US voters and check your status + do a quick lookover of your ballot measures. Midterms and local policy are frequently more important and easier to have a direct impact on.

For me the big thing is people refusing to "just dislike" something. Nostalgic entitlement, remaster fatigue, regardless it feels like so many folks want to justify their dislike by through the lens of "how it should have been done" and it grinds my gears more than anything.

000

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

The low detail in OoT was the product of hardware and software limitations. You can certainly make the argument games are more maximalist in general now that we have fewer strict limitations, but that's a completely different argument than "well the original clearly wanted to be blurry as hell"

090

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

Ok I'm sorry, I don't usually participate in needless online flame wars like this I literally don't care about the OoT remake's style But when people say "the original was so simple and stylized where are these textures coming from?" ARE YOU FUCKING DAFT THIS IS THE FIRST GAMEPLAY SPACE IN THE OG

2291

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

I'm not saying the remake style is my preference. PBR lighting isn't my taste. I just didn't understand where "leave it to the imagination" fit into this equation. Stylization is not "leaving it to the imagination", it's an intentional visual choice.

100

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

Ok ... Starfox and OoT remakes are not the same /style/. Photorealistic textures =\= photorealism. That being said, given the areas of OoT and MM that were prerendered I also think it's a safe bet they wanted this level of detail in the originals.

100

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

So... You think they should make a stylized Zelda game that isn't trying to use pbr photorealistic textures and doesn't follow the original story exactly but has the same thread... Isn't that literally every other Zelda game in the last 30 years? I feel like you're yelling at cloud a bit.

100

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

So... Why do a remake at that point? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

100

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

I'm curious what you mean by "leaving a lot to the imagination" considering the expectations of modern graphical fidelity.

100

Skai is a Wahderg @ ASC? @apfelskai.art · 09/09/2026

I used to live up in the mountains and in some ways it was awful, but getting to experience nature more intimately was not one of those ways.

My wirefox terrier sona Wolly, standing poolside. Shiny goop clings to hi body, slowly converting him to a pooltoy. Complete with an air valve on his stomach, and handles on his back, he's got one of his untransformed paws up to his now permanently smiling rubber face, with his one non transformed eye wide with shock.

Behind him in the water looming with an excited look is a small cameo by Wolly's husband Kay
