Power outages in the EU are classified as a rare event. I'm in Spain. Apart from the 16 hours Spain blackout last year, the longest downtime i can recall in the previous 15 years is measured in minutes.

Recommended reading: "Renewables are just being added on top of fossil fuels." Wrong comparison. Demand grew 75% since 2005 regardless. Without wind and solar, power sector CO2 in 2025 would have been 28% higher. Excellent analysis by @zekehausfather.com www.theclimatebrink.com/p/what-if-th...

What if the world hadn't built wind and solar?
Clean energy does not simply “add to” global energy use; it displaces fossil sources that would otherwise get built.

Parking lot solar costs up to 2x more than commercial building rooftop solar & up to 3x more than Solar farms. If solar is required to power the grid, Solar farms are the most efficient, both financially & practically. Fossil fuel groups don't want this to happen.
000
Anymouse🗿 @anymouse84.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The only group that actively encourages this, are the fossil fuel group. There is no shortage of land for solar farms. 30million acres are used for growing ethanol corn. 20% of that turned over to solar would produce more energy than the US uses in a year.

80% of ELECTRICITY generation in Scotland is from wind, 30TWh. That's an 80% reduction in generation from coal & gas producing CO2. Industry & transport are still using fossil fuel as energy. Electricity is 17% of total energy consumed. Electrification will increase that figure.

The excess energy is sold by the private companies in Scotland that own all the wind turbine energy that is produced. Bought by other private companies based in England, Wales & Ireland.

LNG is killing the planet. Global markets should not want your LNG. If they can't get it, they will accelerate renewables uptake. Your post requires no praise. Use the $33Billion to install 12 GW of Solar, 4.5 GW of wind power & 2GW of 4-6hour battery storage!

It's energy generation for Scotland. The EXCESS energy is sold via interconnections to England, Wales & Ireland. The ENERGY costs per kWh across the UK are the same. The STANDING MONTHLY CHARGES are higher in Scotland due to high maintenance costs of the Scottish grid infrastructure.

The people's occupation of Puerta del Sol in Madrid continues to grow in size and ferocity. They know the real invaders are not working class immigrants or people of color, but vulture funds, landlord parasites and transnational capitalists who drive workers from homes and suppress wages.

Public Fast chargers 3x cheaper per mile than petrol cars. Eg: £100 per month spent on petrol, or £33 per month on electricity. Saving £800+/yr. But you have to drive <1 mile & wait <30 mins once a month to charge your car. Your choice. 300,000 public chargers by 2030!
