Sharing a little pansy/candle piece I made back in March ☂️ • Needlepoint thread and yarn over burlap, 4 x 4”

Behind the primary image of a minimal, purple and yellow pansy with face-shaped splashes of white and black stitching, “25” sits in small yellow letters in top left, four rectangles of yellow at bottom evenly spaced mimic the light of the room I sat in stitching this, with a white taper candle in candlestick lit at right all over an orange field.

Write your Congressman a handwritten letter and physically mail it. I still believe that this has power. It is tangible and enduring, and physically registers your presence while also expressing your opinion. Imagine how hundreds of thousands of letters arriving could have real impact !

The surface is now fully covered with yarn and design, nearly complete!

This looks like a huge step in the right direction by Society6. I’m really hoping point 1 is to only accept artwork made by human artists and ban AI completely. Getting rid of artist fees and charging artists for shipping is good — but over a year late.

Over the past year, I’ve noticed a significant increase in AI-generated images and the spread of fake news, especially on Meta platforms. Since the inauguration, right-wing propaganda posts have become more prevalent in my social media feeds on Instagram and TikTok.

I was flying from refills of diner coffee in one of those reassuringly dense mugs this morning and decided I needed to make this Ins/outs list before the new of the year totally expired :

I’m filling in the background of this needlepoint tapestry/diary right now, started on a large coffee sack in 2022; Every stripe of the plaid bit was a broken thread of burlap I replaced along the way — there were many more since covered, so I’m leaving this here in case of future forgetting 🐎 #wip
