I could not be happier for Kate O'Flynn winning the Emmy last night. A Bury lass who went to RADA, she first made a big impact on the screen in Bridget Jones's baby as the eponymous heroine's spiky boss, but absolutely stole the show in Channel 4's Everyone Else Burns. Brilliant!

In regularly hot countries, air-conditioning is the norm, not the exception. But throw a few heatwaves into the mix, and the UK is now seriously investing in air-conditioning in houses and places of work. This is as it should be, for public health reasons, regardless of what critics might say.
