As I said, the things that current governments have done, including Brexit, would pale into insignificance if an attempt was made for a founding nation of the European convention of human rights to withdraw from It. We would not just become an outlier, we would become an international pariah.

It isn't said often enough, but actually leaving the European convention on human rights would be a massively difficult and catastrophic thing for Britain to do. It would make Brexit look like a walk in the park. No government would do it because of the tiny number of trans people in this country.

I could not be happier for Kate O'Flynn winning the Emmy last night. A Bury lass who went to RADA, she first made a big impact on the screen in Bridget Jones's baby as the eponymous heroine's spiky boss, but absolutely stole the show in Channel 4's Everyone Else Burns. Brilliant!
