53 years ago tonight in Atlanta you'd could have gone to Richards rock club on Monroe Drive to hear that new Jacksonville band called Lynyrd Skynyrd open up for the always phenomenal Bonnie Bramlett. It was a good month for music at the club, as always. Frozen peach daiquiris always tasty, too.

This "flash" bulletin was sent directly to the CNN newsroom, where I worked at the time and took the printout straight from the machine.

August 1972 in Atlanta closed out memorably, albeit bittersweetly, with the Allman Brothers live at the good old Municipal Auditorium. (The band was then a 5-piece in the aftermath of losing Duane the previous October. Berry would be lost less than 3 months later on November 11, 1972.) *sigh*
Event promoter Howard Stein's newspaper ad for Atlanta 1972 end-of-summer concerts including The Allman Brothers Band at the city's Municipal Auditorium. Ticket prices range from $3.50-$5.50.

Must admit Tim Curry’s role as Darkness in Ridley Scott’s 1985 “Legend” might have been my favorite role of his. His mesmerizing, riveting portrayal of the essence of evil kept me returning to this otherwise mediocre fantasy. You could basically forget Tom Cruise ’stars’. Curry owns the film.
