Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 11/09/2026I had the whole beach to myself today and the water was not too cold for a short swim. 031
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 10/08/2026Morning sun and blue skies. A lively spot to wait for the ferry. 140
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 28/06/2026Perfect sunny summer day with fresh air after the rain and a light breeze. Happy to be here and feeling sorry for those who suffer extreme heat now. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 03/06/2026My summer has started! I went for my first swim in unbelievably warm water. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 22/05/2026This year’s first blossom of the rose bush I grew from a twig. It has a wonderful discreet scent. 010
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 10/05/2026Another shore walk treasure, this appears to be a fossil imprint of a trilobite or fish. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 10/05/2026On my low tide shore walk I encountered this geese family with 17 goslings that used the weir to rest and find some food. 050
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 29/04/2026I did my first short paddle in the Bay this year. Found my old kayak among the dinghies stacked at the edge of the beach and even found the paddle. It was soooo nice!! 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 11/04/2026Space to have our coffee and sit at TYFC as it‘s an ordinary weekend and not too warm. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 08/04/2026Grateful for this peaceful and tranquil place. My heart goes out to those who face turmoil with no refuge. 050
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 05/04/2026Watching tourists flock to our island today, visiting the park and lakes and the seashore and keeping our restaurants busy. Kingfishers are noisily dive bombing. The sunshine makes everyone smile. My first time this spring that the sun is high enough to have my afternoon coffee on the front porch. ☀️ 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 22/03/2026You picked a beautiful day. Even in the rain, Crippen Park is beautiful, with all the brilliant green moss. My favourite part is Dorman Point, a short, steep hike ending in an expansive view over the water. 020
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 27/02/2026Listening to the barking of California sea lions. Best thing about living on an island is to never being far from the water. 181
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 08/02/2026Perfect sunny day for a hike to the new section of Dorman Point. 050
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 08/02/2026Me on my father‘s lap with my sister and one of my brothers. 76 years ago, photo obviously taken on a Sunday. 162
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 06/02/2026On my daily walk. Cat encounter in my neighbourhood and the lush greens and old trees in the woods. 020
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 09/01/2026Going up on that trail in the fog which then lifted further up. One of my favourite snow hike memories. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 04/01/2026Same route, a couple of days later, beautiful views, while providing cardio exercise while getting up there. 020
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 02/01/2026New Year’s Day hike to a favourite spot, Dorman Point. Sounds were muffled by the fog. Close by, the mosses were incredibly vibrant. I need to do that hike more often, for the views but also great cardio exercise. 160
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 26/12/2025Christmas Day feeding frenzy of gulls and sea lions taking advantage of herring or anchovies. After many video clips over half an hour, I left the spectacle, wondering how many “bait balls” of these small fish were there to keep sea lions and gulls engaged for so long. 051
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 16/12/2025Thinking of my father today. He was born on December 15, 1912. I was the youngest of four children when he died at age 45. This family portrait was taken at a photographer’s studio ca. 1955. 040
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 08/12/2025Visiting the Christmas craft fair at our local school, I found the youth crafters are the sweetest! I bought a little Christmas tree, cut and folded from paper. The paper bag offered to transport my treasure had a riddle hand written on it, with the answer on the bottom of the bag! 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 22/11/2025Ignore the grey sky - there is neat stuff to see on the forest floor. 020
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 18/11/2025November beach panorama. Some floats and docks are wrapped in orange or green fencing, preventing sea lions from taking up residence and keeping people awake with their incessant barking. 152
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 30/10/2025Remembering my mother who died this day 38 years ago. In this photo she was wearing her Sunday dress, which was still her Sunday dress after I was born more than ten years later. It had a yellow pattern with velvet purple shoulder patches. I still remember the feeling of that dress. 140
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 24/10/2025My very last dahlia blossom of this year. I brought it in before the forecast rainstorm arrives. No choice now but to start on my indoor tasks that I’ve neglected during the summer. At least, that last dahlia will keep me company for a few days. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 15/10/2025I did enjoy another unexpected short ocean swim today at Bowen Bay Beach, in an unconventional swim suit. Hoping to have a few more chances like that before the heavy rains set in. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 06/10/2025Wistfully sitting at the shore, wishing swimming season would just last a little longer. 040
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 28/09/2025Wonderful article. I have 190 photos of moss, taken on my walks through the woods. This one is an especially brilliant green, taken at the end of November, during our rainy season. 0193
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 27/09/2025Horseshoe Bay, on a warm day after the end of the summer, can be a relaxing place while waiting for the ferry. 2101
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 19/09/2025And … another day for a swim. I am grateful for every opportunity to swim before the water gets cold. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 13/09/2025Nothing beats a late summer swim in crystal clear water at the now almost deserted beach. For me, this beats a tropical, sandy beach any day. 110
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 04/09/2025Smoky air continues. Another day to stay indoors with doors and windows closed, air purifiers and air conditioning running. Our new community centre is offering a safe refuge for those not having relief at home, including free N95 masks. - Photo by Karen Baker Mooder. 020
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 03/09/2025Heading home now. Air is still very bad. West Vancouver is in the “unhealthy” range and my home on Bowen is situated between two IQAir stations, one “hazardous” and the other “very unhealthy”. I bought a replacement filter for the air purifier to be prepared for more days of bad air. 030
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 24/07/2025Today’s challenge: Finding the safest and least steep bike routes to various spots around the North Shore. Google made some good suggestions but there was no mention of several long staircases in parks. I exercised my body as well as my brain with various detours. 000
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 05/07/2025Your grandmother’s attempts to teach you sewing were unsuccessful 😄. It’s never too late to learn. 010
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 04/07/2025Beach Siesta. I love interpreting cloud shapes. I think the one above the tree branches looks like the head and neck of a horse. 131
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 20/06/2025This year’s balcony gardening surprise: The rosebush I propagated three years ago from a little branch has finally grown up and is producing beautiful, fragrant blossoms for the first time! 041
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 05/06/2025Homeward bound. Always nice to see those sights heading home after a day in the city. 110
Anne @anne.onbowen.ca · 31/05/2025Thinking of my mother on her birthdate today. Seen here in 1977, letting little @bmann.ca “help” her with a sewing project. 1261
