Is that Silent Hill Townfall? Every clip and image I see of that game's setting looks so familiar it's insane, like I know that bin! I've been to pubs with that carvery poster! I wasn't that bothered about picking it up but I'm going to have to now just to explore this place for myself.

Tried to pick the games that shaped me fairly early on but I feel like I'm constantly getting shaped by new games, they really have become one of the most influential forms of media in my life. Still I'd say this lot had a damn strong impact.

In conclusion, I am very happy I played Onimusha: Way Of The Sword. I'm especially glad that I made the choice to pre-order it so I could experience it completely blind. If it interests you at all I hope you'll give it a go. And I hope this gets more people to try the original games too.

Some of that may just be personal preference, I certainly think the writing team deserves a hell of lot of credit for the incredible dialogue they gave us. There were so many memorable lines in this game and some genuinely funny jokes (I did laugh out loud several times).

However I found the endgame unsatisfying. For as great as these characters are and the cool plot overall there were several threads left incomplete (some of which felt like sequel bait). And I don't think all the characters got the development needed to make their endings impactful.

The plot... I'm not saying it's bad. Mostly it is good, great even. I like a lot of these characters, heck I love them. Musashi is a great protagonist, Dokyo is a top tier villain, Okuni is my favourite of the ally characters and god damn Ganryu just stole the show every time he appeared.

Side content is hit and miss. I'm meh on the chance encounters as there's not much too them but the mysteries of Kyoto are an excellent addition, partially because of Lady Murasaki (love her sooo much) but mostly because they're actually little stories that compliment the main plot.

I like the setting, all the different areas are really cool and the graphics are very pretty to look at. Sound design is also great, love the music and voice acting (side note I did play with the Japanese voice acting, might do a second playthrough in English to see what that's like).

The gameplay is really good. I love the hack and slash combat, there's a decent variety in enemy types (adore the new genma designs) and good challenge, particularly with the bosses. Still not keen on armaments being special moves rather than alternate weapons, but the swordplay is enjoyable.
