Remember when Crunchyroll tried to make their subtitles significantly worse a year ago? They backtracked on it at the time, but I suspected they were just delaying their plans to shift from Aegisub to OOONA, and sadly, it seems I was right: Crunchyroll is actively pushing OOONA subs to users now.

The Manga Million "Featured Article" section continues to be a very strange thing. Nice that there's a Juan Albarran interview. But why? He's never published under Shueisha. Only Kodansha and Shogakukan (in Japan). It's just such odd choices they are making over there...

It's not "the new RightStuf", but MediaOCD expanding the store up to include manga is a very welcome addition to the marketplace options. The chances of me purchasing an anime series and bundling in a volume of manga or two like I did in the RightStuf days is so much more likely to happen.

Coming soon, we’ll be adding our first manga selections to the store. We’ll be concentrating on stocking smaller publishers at first, which might be harder to find in other places. We’re starting with our friends at Manga Mavericks.

Great to see that this is also getting a shikishi! "Sinbad" is my most anticipated upcoming new MMB release. The other titles are all pleasant/unexpected surprises. I know little about this series, but it gives me some good vibes that it will be something I'll really enjoy.

Looks like there will be a Kodansha 60th Anniversary Party at the NYC Kodansha House next month. If the capacity is only 60 people... It would be really cool if they did name tags where each person was assigned a year & book from Kodansha's legacy.

It's a lot of spreadsheet work right now. Thousands of lines of data to discover and document. But I've gotten a decent-enough streamlining converting that to a functioning website right now. So I can at least see the super nice version of all this data that hasn't been easily accessible.

Having done this for, uh, almost 30 years now, one of the things that strangely brings great pleasure is trying to figure out a manga series. You get a cover, and maybe a name, and it's a title that's not in mangadex, mangaupdates, or anime-planet. It's the best kind of research...

This sale is pretty much "Remember these old Tokyopop and Del Rey manga titles?" Kodansha is doing better than ever right now, which is great to keep to keep these older titles around and accessible. Compared to Tokyopop which is struggling again.

Picking up this issue also helped me confirm that yes, Slump ‘97 chapter 25 ran here, then it was indeed on break for two issues until it picked up again with chapter 26 in the March 2000 issue (which I also picked up). All original chapter printings are at least confirmed and accounted for now!

Interestingly I came across more of the seasonal issues of Monthly Asuka from 1987. So it wasn't just a one-off in '86. I'll have to update those articles later with the additional info. Doesn't help with the color page search for "The Sword of Paros", but discovering old manga info is still neat!

Give me Gallery Fake! It's got everything working against it. Aniplex, potential copyright concerns, that soft-mid-00s look, a Shogakukan manga series that's just as complex to handle, etc. It's a series that has so much "more hassle than its worth" that I can dream, but is unrealistic.

Since Manga Million will have a booth at Anime NYC next weekend... I hope all of the manga publishers can leverage that Sheuisha appearance to get their foot in the door for picking up more of those titles. Even if they can "rescue" a title or two for an upgraded print release.

In the Crunchyroll Manga app, you used to be able to click on "Extras" and then there was a link to the CR Store to buy the manga & other products. Now that link goes directly to the licensor's website (Viz, Kodansha) to buy elsewhere. And the links that still point to the CR store are broken!
