I was testing out transcoding Blu-ray rips with AV1 in Handbrake and discovered that x265 retains film grain far, far better than AV1, even with both set to comparable constant quality levels. AV1, even with its fancy film grain synthesis option, smoothed all the grain away. So I only do x265 now.

They were psychology professors, Dr. Sylvia Beyer and Dr. Edward Bowden. Small world, very cool!

That’s awesome, I had no idea the pod was created by a southeast Wisconsinite. My parents taught at Parkside.

I’m from Kenosha, WI. It’s tough to say. Clearly, dems were motivated, but I don’t think maga was, given there was no majority at stake. The midterms is a national event where the majority is at stake. I think they’ll crawl out of their mcmansions and get in their f150s to defend their majorities.

A lot of kids are gonna open Discord and Chrome and try and play Roblox and they’re gonna be getting an education in memory swap and ram usage. Then they’ll accidentally plug a usb drive into the usb 2.0 port and wonder why their Minecraft world takes an hour to copy over.

Asking ppl on Bluesky how to disentangle the complex is hopeless: I’d speak to actual politicians & policy people on how they’d do it, someone similar to Lina Khan but on the M4A bandwagon. Rn youre speaking to ppl who want something & rly shouldn’t be expected to know the implementation specifics

I ordered a raspberry pi over the weekend and the free shipping said it would take 12–18 days to arrive, and this is fully domestic. I assume that means they’ll just let it sit around at the bottom of a bin for like a week or two before actually shipping it

+/- 3pts as usual. i remember being on the 538 subreddit during election season and the mental gymnastics and confirmation bias people (myself included) entertained to discount +/- 3pts when the polls were tightening in October was crazy. seems like a good standard polling aggregate error to expect.

i find myself thinking this type of thing a lot but if you were born 100 years earlier you’d have lived through a world war and a pandemic by this time in the century. The start of this century is arguably an improvement over the start of the last one. although there’s still time for that to change

My theory for why myself and others haven’t been bothered by it is that we may just be used to our games having motion blur enabled. I mean, playing mario kart, I kinda of expect blurriness in fast moving moments.

im saying it’s strange that they’re like “harris lost because she lacked imagination” and then they display their own lack of imagination by copying the project 2025 name

0120

InternetEnzyme @andybb.mov · 30/06/2025

Isnt he literally saying Harris had no imagination at the beginning of the article, too? Like, she had no imagination, and you’re gonna combat that by mimicking your opponent’s branding?

I dont truly know. I personally read and I think things like fantasy and romance still have some young audience appeal. i do think that women are reading way more than men. its likely that gen z reads less than previous generations. But reading overall is just far less popular than it was

101

InternetEnzyme @andybb.mov · 22/06/2025

when people talk about gen z it sort of sounds like the same old immemorial moral panic about the youth. there’s always something to stoke a neurotic fear. “They’re more conservative and religious, they don’t read they just scroll tiktok!” i dont personally see it

Yeah, that’s what i thought, too—how much do those magnets cost, really? This is Tim Cook’s Apple: ten thousand Apple Pencils and iPad Keyboards, nothing is ever truly a value, the cheaper stuff is just a rehash of past ideas with no regard for the accessory ecosystem, just penny pinching all around
