If they really want to do this they should raise their rates to match "work for hire" rates.

Begs the question, "What is the price of your soul?" and "How much do they think they can buy your soul for?" $500 would insult me.

A comedic noir novella about a demon framed for murder in the Devil’s corner of D.C. and the one dick who might have the Manischevitz to do something about it. Get this hard-boiled detective story by Andrew Hiller! Link: atthisarts.com/product/horn... #ScaryStories #noir #comedy #horror #Booksky

Is MAGA's anti-early voting policy actually anti-military? Pre-pandemic, I believe the majority of early voters were in active duty and overseas.

I wonder if one is more your "expert" voice and the other more your "natural"/"comfy clothes voice? It could also be that the topics in one podcast hit you emotionally or intellectually different. It could be your "excited" vs your "educator" voice? Anyway, it's a fun thing to note and explore.

That's interesting, but probably explainable, too. We wear many hats and adopt slightly different nomenclature based on the setting/environment. Think of how you communicate at the office vs. at home vs. at church, etc. I wonder it is about each podcasts that elicits the role change?

I remember discussing this phenomenon with one of the engineers at NPR. Apparently, reproduced sound is always a little "off" and that creates a dissonance when picked up by the ear. In other words, the reason many don't like hearing their voice is because the brain interprets the sound as wrong.

Best result would be for the judges to declare no winner because all works were plagiarized. Second best result would be for them to cancel the contest.

It may have even been "impossible" to fix given the constraints of the room (I doubt it) but that's just more reason to be apologetic and empathetic.

Andrew Hiller @andrewintheclouds.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Yeah, it's about foreplanning, but it's also about making it work when screwups happen. The fault is not only about thinking about accessibility in the first place but acting like an ass instead of finding a workaround and demonstrating empathy.

Before I lead my children's book writing workshop I always stop by the library. I believe the first step to writing is reading. The discussion is usually about what works, what doesn't work, and why certain stories resonate/last. I ask the students to bring their favorite kiddie books, too!

I think that some don't get that these practices and laws were born out of something. They weren't just written, designed, or invented to make things more expensive or inconvenience us. They were done to try to solve a problem.

Hornytown Chutzpah is a satire and a romp. A demon is framed for murder in that part of Hell that got raised into Washington D.C. because the Devil realized humans tortured each other better than his own workforce. Now, a detective with a super soaker full of Manischewitz must figure it out piclink

Tabling is fun. My rules of thumb. Look for eye contact, be friendly, ask them what they enjoy and if you think it's a fit then deliver a short pitch. Be excited about your work. I find it helps if you make 'em laugh, but that's part of my personality. Mainly though, just be you and have fun.

Recently, I finished this book called the Dragon of Ynys by @minervacerridwen.bsky.social & I really enjoyed it! It includes a lot of queer characters, the story is very sweet, heartwarming & of course, Snap the dragon is absolutely perfect. It’s such a comforting little book that made me so happy 🐉
A hand holding up a paperback book that reads the Dragon of Ynys. The author’s name at the bottom reads Minerva Cerridwen. The book cover features a snowy landscape with hills, a large dragon in the center and two smaller humans following behind.

There are definitely times where I finish a book and want to continue to live with those characters, but I like to alternate age groups, styles, and genres frequently.
