Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 28/03/2025It’s been decades since I worked for them. But back then, my surprise was to discover how big the newsagent part of the business was. Shipping physical papers to shops (not just WHS), and taking back unsold ones. I guess that has dried up too.the.my 140
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 27/03/2025Having owned a Japan built Nissan (I didn’t realise at the time, was a second-hand first edition Leaf as sold to UK market). You suddenly rediscover logistics on parts etc for repairs when they’re surface shipped (3 months) to dealers. 010
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 27/03/2025I’m surprised we export them to US not the EU. But Vauxhall, Nissan, Toyota and Mini all have big factories in the UK (I think?). 110
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 26/03/2025Newborn babies were the one thing that cured my insomnia. Suddenly I could fall asleep anywhere… 000
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Depends on age, many are research active. However, I assume many are also retired/emeritus. A minority of those members are then probably active in policy/RS governance. Therefore, while I’ve made many assumptions, I think that leaves a non-trivial number for which my query is not disingenuous. 000
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 25/03/2025I would love to know what you loose by turning in an FRS. You still got an FRS…. So the recognition is not lost. 211

Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 25/03/2025I love talking to school kids about how science told Scott of the Antarctic that limes cure scurvy, despite everyone knows they do and the UK navy used them 100 years earlier. I also have a great talk on how making bread from air fuelled a world war. 010

Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 11/03/2025There is a skeet saying that there was an altercation on the platform so they as stuck at Old Street. But really at this point no idea. Given I’m now at the main line station and no one is evacuated - but the Underground is close - means both are plausible. 200
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 11/03/2025Just had to evacuate Kings Cross St Pancras underground. It was then most British evac. Everyone just queued as normal, and stood on the right of the escalator as minority of us used the left to walk up. No idea what was going on. 130
Andrew Holding @andrewholding.bsky.social · 11/03/2025The GP even questioned why I wasn’t vaccinated. I was, 40 years ago and it doesn’t last the long. The reason I didn’t have a booster is I’ve never been pregnant. 010
