People hated Season of the Witch when it came out. Now it’s one of the most beloved Halloween sequels. “Curse of Michael Myers” found its cult following. Rob Zombie’s H2 went from being the most hated sequel to getting a cultural reappraisal. Halloween Ends, your day is coming.

The Whisper Man wasted several really good performances on a script that told you everything you needed to know in the first act. I gave it 2.5 stars on Letterbox primarily because of the acting. Not one that I would recommend.

My Dr informed me that we have my Graves Disease under control. All of my labs (except 1) are back in the normal range. I’m going to start taking less meds & hopefully when I go back in Oct, I’ll be in remission officially. Still dealing with the rheumatoid arthritis, but I’m feeling a lot better.

I just sat on a Zoom call with Jen Lynch for the last 2 hours. She knows her Dad was my favorite & I never got to meet him. She told me story after story about my favorite director. It was one of my best conversations ever. Parts of it will be published one day. Other parts are just for me.

Going to get my hands checked out. My endocrinologist said it could be rheumatoid arthritis or carpal tunnel. Writing has been a pain lately but I’m still working. Big thing for me has been trying to keep a positive attitude, with the Graves Disease & now both hands making things difficult.

In 2018, I asked NOES 2 Director Jack Sholder about the Jesse character & whether or not the subtext surrounding Jesse’s sexuality was intentional. Intentional or not, Jesse would go on to become a horror icon & provide representation for the queer community at a time when there was much less.

John Carpenter & Dean Cundey’s work together resulted in some of horror’s most atmospheric shots, that leaned into the genre’s visual past while also pushing it forward. Cundey would tell me of his love of 50s monster films that kickstarted his imagination in our interview for Horror in Haddonfield.

Location adds to the lore of horror series. Haddonfield’s trauma was visible. Springwood tried to contain its dark secrets. Crystal Lake tried to move past its violent history. But all 3 series made their locations a character, which adds additional layers of storytelling over the course of sequels.

Read the book in a few sittings - for my crazy brain, that’s a compliment. Well researched, filled with fun, illuminating and sometimes wild facts revealed through a collection of interviews with key players. As a Halloween junkie, it’s the good stuff. My favorite bits were from the screenwriters.

16 years ago today, LOST ended. The ending of LOST was widely misunderstood for years & is finally getting its due reappraisal. It’s brilliant. Thematically, the final season of the show really laid the groundwork for Lindelof’s next show, The Leftovers. The parallels are undeniable. Future book?
