Big news from Labour Conference: the PM has announced the government's plan to scrap first past the post. Seats that match votes would change British politics for good, but only if it happens. I've added my name. Join me? action.electoral-reform.org.uk/page/201578/...

Alastair Campbell rightly says Starmer mistook a huge Commons majority for a huge public mandate. FPTP is to blame. As politics fragments, it manufactures false majorities off increasingly low vote shares. The result: govt that looks secure until a poll dip leaves it facing losses across the map.

I hope we're going to see many charges for incitement to racial hatred, incitement to violence and incitement to riot, all of which have been happening blatantly and prolifically on social media. Or will two-tier policing in the UK, favouring the right and the far right, prevail yet again?

If the next general election is held under First Past the Post, we could get a government that 25% of people voted for. Or we could end up in a situation where the winning party is not the one that got the most votes. This is an emergency. Proportional Representation can't wait - we need it now 🚨

We keep hearing that "Proportional Representation would risk giving power to extremists", so let's make it clear: Under FPTP, an extremist party could win a supermajority on a small minority of the vote. Under PR, that's impossible. We know what's safer.

The only way Reform UK could win a general election is through our first-past-the-post system. If we had proportional representation, the threat would evaporate. We don't have PR because Starmer has blocked it. This allows him to say: vote Labour or you get Farage. Because it's all he has left.

News that Gatwick can expand from 46.5m passengers (2019) to 75m is terrible for the environment. It just means more well-off people can have more foreign holidays, made cheaper by no tax on airline fuel. And the Government wants to expand Heathrow too. Once growth was about a Green New Deal.
