The Operative in Serenity, the Firefly movie. Utterly convinced he's right, and that what he does is evil but necessary for the greater good. Thanos could never.

I'm not a web dev but I'm starting to get why people say they can "tell a unity game" with how many vibed tailwind sites there are now.

Mathematicians like terrence tao think this is not a terribly useful end result. The formal proof is too long and complicated for humans, and the approach taken hides all the interesting failed side avenues that also have useful knowledge in them. It’s remarkable but it’s not useful.

I’m not a philosopher, but just because two processes are both emergent, that doesn’t make them of equal value or outcome.

Cuz it’s not, the communication format for these pyramids are fully formed text or json blobs. If you really really want to analogise to animals, a Claude or Gemini prompt is more like a swarm of dumb bees exhibiting intelligent-like behaviour by emergence.

Andrew Fray Helps Automate Video Games @andrewfray.dev · 15/09/2026
kind of? I think it's fairer to say it's more like pyramids of LLMs passing output and tool calls up and down. that approach ends up being relatively effective at planning and producing things like code.

Sensible Defaults do not exist, and neither do Best Practices. New video: youtu.be/deKtxzvf92g Whenever next anyone asks me what 'Sensible Default' to use, or what the 'Best Practices' are, I will link this video. It explains my arguments, includes examples, and hopefully finally puts it to rest.

Knowledge won't be shared, the same mistakes will happen over and over, and an industry already on its knees will take another blow. And that's before the AI bubble even pops, taking the world economy with it! Anyway strap in I guess. I don't have a fix for you.

If you didn't know, maths is going through a bit of a crisis, as AI makes it "easier" to generate long complex hard-to-review proofs. Gamedev is facing similar problems, but for various reasons, it's happening in the dark in many places at once.

I think I'm a power user, in the way all tech fans think they're power users, but also: I have only ever used the smallest capacity iPhones, currently a 128GB iPhone 13 Pro. I currently have 30+GB free. What are you folks doing with your phones that you need 512! Or a terrabyte! Really, tell me!

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

jenkins still very much my goto for smaller teams. teamcity is great for bigger, more complex jobs. its dependency model is much more powerful, so can help reduce churn, but that comes with a learning curve. always happy to chat francois!

I have a soft spot for linkedin. Huge number of problems, yeah. But it’s a space where it’s ok to be proud of yourself, in a way that bsky would be snarky about. on linkedin I can post “I was smart and did a thing and it paid off” and a complete stranger will reply “hell yeah” in the comments.
