📣Out now on #firstview! Rabia Abba Omar (Stellenbosch University) and Theo Di Castri @theodicastri.bsky.social @homertoncollege.bsky.social on 'Giving Intentionally Silenced People(s) a Voice' #Archives #Roundtable #History #Creative 🗃️ 👉Read open access here: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
In the following conversation, historian Theo Di Castri and researcher/curator Rabia Abba Omar reflect on how questions of silence and voice are at play in their respective work. After challenging the very idea of ‘giving’ an archival voice to intentionally silenced people(s) and considering some alternative approaches, the conversation moved on to consider how artists, activists, and scholars working in other disciplines stand to expand and enrich our ability to respond to these recurring quandaries.

Still one of the best academic diagrams.
A figure holding a pig, hands said pig off to another figure "Please have this pig", the first figure says. "Thanks," says the second.

Folks, I'm in a quandary. Last year I reviewed a paper that was great, but had some problems. I recommended revisions. It seems clear, however, that it was rejected. I want to use some ideas and cite the draft. I have attempted to track down the paper and the author with no luck. What do I do?

Folks working on aesthetics: is there work about "aestheticizing" something that shouldn't be evaluated aesthetically? Like, valuing something as an aesthetic object when it should be evaluated/valued in some other way — like as a religious or political object or practice?
