Rob Bynes | "Flight of the Navigator"
I shot this film May 21st of 2022 in Bern, Switzerland. Two years ago exactly. As I try to find the words to explain the film, the more I realize that isn’t necessary. I’ve had my own journey with it, filled with peaks and valleys both artistically and personally. Now it’s time for me to release it, again with a double meaning. If I am to leave you with anything, it’s just that I want you to have your own journey with it. You may see yourself in it or find your own meanings. By the time a musical artist releases an album to the world, they’ve already had their own long-standing relationship with the work. Often times God will place something in us that we don’t fully understand in the moment but we have a choice to respond to the calling. After working with Childish Gambino recently, it gave me the courage to bring this moment full circle and answer that call. This is a breath that I’ve held for far longer than 2 years and now I can finally exhale. Much much love to @moiralafosse for being willing to work with a stranger lol. From what I saw in my head to what you brought to the vision, I couldn’t thank you enough. Your support meant a lot and we were able to create something beautiful. @rodneychonia who would’ve ever guessed that we’d both find ourselves working together on the other side of the world haha. Even though we haven’t shared many moments in LA, having you be a part of this still made me feel like I had a piece of home with me. It really helped me relax more and I was confident that I could communicate my vision clearly with you. Your expertise and creative input was exactly what I needed, especially in moments where things could’ve gotten really overwhelming. Thank you bro 🙏🏾✊🏾
