Per World Weather Attribution, scientists found that the European heatwave is producing temperatures that would be "virtually impossible" in June 50 years ago. Even in 2003, when a heatwave in Europe killed ~70,000, these temps would be ten times less likely to occur.

Reminds me of the “Climate Club” idea suggested by Nordhaus, which is a treaty to reduce fossil fuels and tax imports from countries who are not members. Makes much more sense than the consensus-based approach by #UNFCCC, where action is blocked by petro states.

As the first reanalysis data become available, I think I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that the March 2026 heatwave will go down as the most anomalously extreme heat event ever observed at any time of year in the southwestern U.S.
