Faster, bigger, more severe: Extreme wildfire spread sets the stage for forest ecosystem change in western and boreal North America
A relatively small number of rapidly spreading wildfire events burn disproportionately large areas. But beyond area burned, do fast fires produce distinct postfire ecological outcomes? Here, we measur...

Megafires in Spain are easily spreading into areas that burned only 12 years ago (orange areas burned in 2014–2015). This confirms the relatively short period during which previous fires limit subsequent fire spread. In Catalonia, we identified a window of just ~7 years. (provi perim July 18th)

La acumulación de días seguidos con temperaturas muy altas en la mayor parte del país influye en la proliferación de fuegos simultáneos, lo que a su vez complica la extinción

The area burned in the Canadian 2025 fire season has hit 5 million ha. Third active fire season in a row that combined has burned 7% of the Canadian forest. Currently we have 346 fires out of control (192 monitored out of control (OC) and 154 OC that are being actioned) so expect the number to rise.
