That is entirely fair. Tremendous case of diminishing returns. I did the first season of the Daryl Dixon show and it was okay but not enough to keep watching, and the one season of that recent Rick and Michonne show which was a SLOG.

Oh yeah I lucked out by not being a comics guy! Being too aware of the "adaptation" element of any show or movie is such a burden to me.

(Honestly I saw too many tiktoks responding to the masking lesbian bar that were obviously people excited to shit on lesbians, including other queer people. The ableism was massive, but so was the opportunistic lesbophobia.)

030

....I don't doubt there are homophobic lesbians, for sure, but the gay scene in Crash is the FRESH TATTOO LICKING scene. Licking a fresh tattoo (open wound) is the only thing in any Cronenberg movie that's ever made me actually gag. I promise a lot of those EWs were not for Spader/Koteas fucking.

I saw someone piling on the Massachusetts lesbian bar thing by talking about lesbians being homophobic during a nearby university screening of Crash by only "EW"ing at the dude gay scene. No further examples of comments or bad behaviour, and...

I don't think any show can keep the audience's enthusiasm for 11 seasons, honestly. I probably would have hated it too if I spent 11 years watching the zombie show, but you don't get as burnt out watching it in 2 months 🤷🏼‍♂️

But also I'm extremely biased about The Walking Dead as someone who hates Rick with a passion and thinks everyone else should have cannibalized him three seasons in.

A lot of people saying The Walking Dead, but as someone who binged the entire series after it had already ended, the dropoff is not extreme. Fear The Walking Dead, however, had a last 2 seasons so bad they deleted memories of things I had liked about the show previously.

The truth is out there, baby. Show how much you want to believe with some weirdo stickers! -oddly cute Flukeman (The Host, S2E02) -From Outer Space by Jose Chung book (Jose Chung's From Outer Space,...

Formative enough experience that I was once compelled to make a sticker about it!

Photo of a stickerbombed laptop with two copies of a sticker sitting on top. Square photo of a dilapidated old house framed in black with green typewriter text "I watched Home on 11/10/96 and all I got was this lousy anxiety disorder."

Those Stephen Gammell illustrations are fucked up (complimentary). I can't believe they let us have that as kids.

One of my top 5 most-listened-to full albums of all time. Truly perfect front to back.

People who have not read one single book on prison abolition or restorative justice assuming it means "if the white man I like raped someone long enough ago, don't worry about it"

god, I would do so many free murals if I had UBI.

0223

What an unbelievable waste for so many people to work so hard on a whole movie, only for someone to go "hmm, you know what's better than 30sec of archive footage? Embroiling our film in controversy so we'll never get a headline that doesn't mention AI."

it's so funny that people will always say "Springsteen" when people talk about songwriters on labour, when really so much of his work is about how the most heterosexual man in the world can yearn like a lesbian

I have thought about those homunculi at least quarterly for 35 years.

I have a million answers of Buffy eps and Simpsons and all that, but this one left me inconsolable and has really stayed with me in an important way.

Surprisingly enough, S06E04 of The Walking Dead! A bottle episode with John Carroll Lynch and Lennie James called Here's Not Here, which is one of the most profound things I've ever seen on TV. Deals with restorative justice, vengeance, and grief so deftly, on the SIXTH season of a zombie show.

Still from The Walking Dead showing a bald white man (Eastman) standing in a field facing away from a Black man (Morgan) crouching near camping equipment.

And if you are somehow okay with the state torturing someone if they did bad enough things (really?), think about Marcellus Williams. He was murdered by lethal injection in 2024 despite exonerative information. That innocent man, and who knows how many others, were executed this same way.

010

If you still support the death penalty in some cases, you should read about the drug supply issues and how inconsistent administering them efficiently is. It has been botched a shocking number of times, and it is TORTURE. I saw a doc where the expert described it as feeling like acid in your veins.

Oh maybe I phrased that weird-- I only ever heard swamp water in Ontario! I heard the American name for it for the first time like in my 30s.

God I love how regional this shit is. I only ever heard swamp water until I was like 30.

Tom Noonan said that he shaved his eyebrows to play Frankenstein's Monster in Monster Squad and they just didn't grow back for years. That always tickled me.

This is maybe the most nakedly violent editorial I have ever read. It is horrifying that it was even published. The author repeatedly clarifies that debate is not enough to deal with someone like Avi Lewis.

But also I really don't want to lose Jack O'Connell to a franchise! He's one of the most interesting working actors we have. His performance in The Bone Temple is one of the best of the decade.
