Usually the kinds of schisms developing here take YEARS and these started happening within a month or two AND a huge chunk of the fandom is completely new to fandom/discourse/established etiquette and it’s sooooo weird and bad, I feel like I’m watching bad reality tv

AND the AI use is tied in with a popular author doing fanfiction with the explicit purpose of eventually turning the fic into a published novel?? While initial fractures are tales as old as time, all of THIS is newer territory, I’m riveted

ALSO a big part of the current drama is surrounding AI use in fanfiction spaces which is overall a bummer but also, again, FASCINATING

Literally no one cares but I have NEVER seen an online fandom tear itself apart as efficiently and brutally as the Heated Rivalry fandom has done in a mere 6 months. It’s honestly breathtaking. Absolutely fascinating to watch unfold
