Honestly, this is fascinating. It looks like standard respiratory panel testing is being done, which is PCR of 7-12 common viruses. C-19 has been specifically mentioned as tested for… so even if it wasn’t on the standard panel it’s been thought about… So…

A line graph titled "SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater and Reported COVID-19 Case Numbers" subtitled "National, last 18 months, on linear scale." The graph compares two metrics from March 2025 to late August 2026.
The left vertical axis measures Genome copies per person per day (from 0 to 10M) for wastewater, represented by a green line. The right vertical axis measures New cases reported per day (from 0 to 200) for clinical cases, represented by a blue line.
The data tracks two major peaks where both lines rise and fall in a similar pattern:
•	A large peak between May '25 and July '25, where reported cases peak near 150 per day and wastewater peaks near 5M copies.
•	A second, slightly lower peak around February '26 to March '26, where wastewater peaks higher (around 6M copies) while reported cases peak near 120 per day.
By August '26, both lines converge and trend downward near their lowest points on the chart.A stacked bar chart titled "Wastewater Variant Analysis" showing the change in the national percentage of SARS-CoV-2 variants per week over an 18-month period from April 2025 to September 2026. The vertical axis represents percentages from 0% to 100%.
The chart visualizes a sequence of shifting genetic variants over time, displayed as a timeline of tightly packed, multi-coloured vertical bars.
•	Early in the timeline (mid-2025), light turquoise and purple segments dominate the lower portions of the bars.
•	By late 2025 and early 2026, dark blue and green segments become highly prominent in the middle sections.
•	Moving into mid-to-late 2026, a bright yellow variant dominates the upper half of the bars, while light pink and orange segments begin to grow from the bottom of the graph by September 2026.
A color-coded legend at the bottom lists 14 variant categories, including labels like PQ.16.1.1, XEC, KP.3, JN.1, and BA.3.2.

A screenshot of the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report for the week ending 3 October 2026, from the NSW Government health website.
A prominent boxed banner at the top states: "Influenza is at a high level of activity. COVID-19 is at a low level of activity. RSV is at a low level of activity."
The "Summary" section repeats these virus activity levels and notes that Influenza vaccination is strongly recommended now.
The "Data sources and methods" section explains how NSW Health monitors respiratory viruses using surveillance data, wastewater programs, and genomic sequencing. It notes that public registration of positive COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (RATs) ceased on 30 September 2023. A final paragraph states that data is updated as new information becomes available, meaning it cannot be directly compared to previous reporting periods. A link at the bottom points to further methodology details.
An image of a data table from the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report for the week ending 3 October 2026.
An Interpretation banner at the top notes weekly decreases in virus notifications: 18.9% for COVID-19, 18.1% for influenza, and 6.9% for RSV.
The main table breaks down 488 COVID-19 cases, 4,745 Influenza cases, and 647 RSV cases recorded that week, along with Year-to-Date totals. The data is categorized by:
•	Gender: Shows case counts and percentages for females and males across all three viruses.
•	Age Group: Lists data across 11 age categories from 0-4 up to 90+.
•	Local Health District (LHD): Tracks cases across 15 regional districts, highlighting that Western Sydney recorded the highest weekly numbers for Influenza (1,068 cases) and COVID-19 (100 cases).
An image showing three bar charts from the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report, tracking weekly notifications from 1 April 2025 to 3 October 2026.
•	COVID-19 Chart (Top): Shows a major wave peaking over 4,000 weekly cases in June/July 2025, followed by a steady baseline around 1,000 cases through 2026.
•	Influenza Chart (Middle): Shows a clear seasonal pattern. Cases peaked around 8,000 in August 2025 and hit a massive seasonal spike of nearly 8,000 cases in August/September 2026. The bars are colour-coded by test type, dominated heavily by dark blue (Influenza - Type A).
•	RSV Chart (Bottom): Shows distinct waves, peaking near 3,000 cases in June 2025, dropping to near-zero in summer, and peaking again near 3,000 cases in June/July 2026 before steadily declining.
An Interpretation banner at the top states that weekly test positivity decreased to 2.2% for COVID-19, 17.8% for Influenza, and 1.5% for RSV.
•	Figure 13 (Line/Bar Graph): Tracks weekly COVID-19 positive tests and percentage rates from 1 April 2025 to 4 October 2026. The rate peaked at 7.3% in July 2025 and has stabilized at a low baseline, sitting at 2.2% at the far right.
•	Table 2: Displays a 4-week breakdown of SARS-CoV-2 notifications up to the week ending 04 October. Two red circles highlight specific data points for the final week: a test positivity rate of 2.2% and a total of 3 laboratories reporting. Total weekly PCR tests conducted hover around 9,500 to 10,500.
