Photo of a red display board above a shop. There is one word, in kannada, hindi and english, arranged to the side and below a picture of two cherries. In kannada it reads "seri" in hindi "sheri" and in english, cheri (the photo is blurry, I was in a cab)

I'm not saying economics is a pseudoscience but humanities/social sciences departments should kick econ out and use that money for doing something useful. The only macros I want are Proteins Carbs and Fats.

four panel screenshots of the LOTR movie. top left shows serious face leslie neilson wearing the crown of Elrond and sitting on his throne text says "ive figured out a way to destroy the ring" second panel is a pensive looking boromir text: what is it. thrid panel is the entire middle section. it shows a close up photo of the one ring and text under it: it's that little round gold thing over there. fourth panel, also a full width one, once again, leslie-elrond-neilson text: but that's not important right now"

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.

The vagueness probably comes from (a) the scientist being unsure and not having the tools to think in terms of scenarios and (b) the rest of the community working for hypemen like Altman who have no incentive to be intellectually rigorous.

Who, Me? was a top secret, sulfurous, non-lethal chemical weapon developed by MIT-graduate Ernest Crocker for the U.S. Office of Strategic Services during World War II.[1][2] Who, Me? smelled strongly of fecal matter, and was issued in pocket atomizers intended to be unobtrusively sprayed on a German officer to humiliate him and, by extension, demoralize the occupying German forces.[3]

Who, Me? had a high concentration of extremely volatile sulfur compounds that were very difficult to control: more often than not, the person who did the spraying also ended up smelling as bad as the one targeted.[4] After two weeks, it was concluded that Who, Me? was a failure.

[Adorable Spider Discovered in Uttarakhand] They collected a lot of spiders and also made sketches of all the different morphs. which I have flipped so we can see all them alien faces.
Sketches of the bodies of the spiders and the patterns of their morphs, some 30 of them. i have rotated the image so it is upside down that way we can see the faces with the "mouth" below the eye, as it should be. most of these look like an egg with four dots or eyes and a curved black or red mouth under them.

I really would like an answer for fucks' sake.
A tweet, and 2 comments on the tweet

Tweet: Quick question: is it for "for fucks sake" or "for fuck sake". it's for a work email so it has to sound professional. (dated 1/27/2020)

Comment1: Neither: it's "for fuck's sake" the sake is on behalf of the fuck, so you need a possessive. Get yourself together, this is a workplace.

comment2 : As many have pointed out, it should have an apostrophe to show possessive. The REAL question is whether it should be "for fuck's sake" or "for fucks' sake". Is it for the sake of ALL the fucks or just this fuck in particular?

Of late I've been wondering if language models are just a programming language that is fiuzzy. I do not seem to get good results when i treat it like it's an encyclopedia, or an 'agent' for most parts, the most useful things are a natural language interface / UI language. #AI

Photograph of a jungle path. The brown, well-trodden path is lined with leaves and scattered rocks, taking up about two-thirds of the frame as it gently snakes from the lower-left corner toward the upper right. Lush grass lines both sides of the path. About two-thirds of the way up, a snake emerges from the right strip of grass onto the path. Approximately one foot of its body is visible with a low head position. Its dorsal surface is black with yellow or orange markings along the belly. The snake features large eyes and its tongue is extended out toward the camera. The camera looks like it is about 4-5 feet from the snake.
